Paint and Bin Bags

I've been using my time away from work to get my life in order. No small feat. With my commute and work and normal family activity - life is usually a sprint. I've known for years I needed to do a clear out as the house was simply full of 'things' with 'stuff' piled on top.

I have been off work for 2.5 weeks so far. I've sorted out our spare room, which I use as my dressing room and as a family we - and the cleaner - fondly call my 'pit'. Never has it been so tidy. I've de-spaded the study  and I've cleaned out the utility room. I've also gone through the rest of the house splitting things into dump - charity - rubbish and recycling.  I've also got the garden ready for spring a huge job producing a lot of garden waste.

The big problem with this is that my clean out produced 7 bags of rubbish and 8 bags of recycling (probably a conservative estimate). That's on top of our normal rubbish and recycling. Our garden waste trolley bin is also full.

And guess what - we haven't had a rubbish, recycling or garden waste pick up for 3 weeks now. Our bins are overflowing - our bike shed is so full of bags the door barely shuts - we've taken to hiding bin bags in bushes and behind chairs in the garden. The seagulls and foxes seem to think it's an all you can eat buffet and my daily walk starts with me running down the road picking up the flotsam and jetsum of our lives.

Walking around our area we're definitely going to be aware when the recycling arrives as there are so many bottles piling up in front of peoples houses it's going to sound like a thrash metal concert for at least an hour. But for once I'll not complain - no matter what time of day it is...... please come soon.

Last week I also did a small amount of painting, this immediately highlighted just how grotty the rest of the paintwork was. So I ordered some gloss white (and it actually turned up). Today I was due to make my woodwork sparkly and white. I did one door - the bathroom door - by the time I'd finished that there were huge drips coming down the door, I had paint on the carpet, bathroom tiles, my arms, face, feet and in my hair - I even managed to paint a towel.

As this was achieved after I'd spent 30 minutes preparing the area to minimise the possibility of damage I've decided to live with the rest of my woodwork - no matter what it looks like. At least the bathroom door is white, if somewhat covered in drips. I wonder if it will ever shut again? I'll let you know.
