In case you are wondering - yes I am beginning to struggle with places in my house I can take photographs without showing cracked paint or dirty carpet. Also in case you're wondering that is the nose of my hedgehog draught excluder photo bombing bottom left (and yes I'm aware my taste is questionable!).
One of the great things that's come out of the virus (yes something good has come out of it) is contact with my brother. For years we've been rushing around - contact is often limited to Christmas and Easter. I've had more calls from my brother in the past 6 weeks than I've ever had. It's great to talk to him.
My brother and sister-in-law spent years building up a very successful business. Last year they sold it for mega bucks (talk about good timing). I'm really really proud of them. Off the back of this he lives in a dream house, right on the beach elsewhere in Sussex (well there's a stretch of grass between his garden and beach to be precise). In his garden he has a pool and a hot tub - he even has a games room with a pool table. Doesn't this sound like the place we'd all love to have lock down in?
The thing is my brother is nicer than me (most of the time). He is feeling incredibly guilty about the luxury he has around him, whilst others are struggling. There are often others using the stretch of grass between his garden and beach to walk their dogs during their one hour exercise. So none of his family have been using the pool or hot tub. I think he's absolutely bonkers. I'd be using them constantly - with glass of champers in hand.
I was telling him about my blog and suggested he started one up to annoy everybody - talking about how hard he's got it. How he doesn't feel comfortable using the pool or hot tub. The conversation then got a bit silly and I thought I'd share...
We thought he could do posts about how unreasonable it was he couldn't get deliveries from Fortnums any more. How people didn't understand how difficult it was to get chlorine for the pool in these difficult times. Perhaps even how annoying it was that people were walking outside the house and blocking his view of the sea (I just added that one).
The whole conversation really made me chuckle, but if he did do that I expect as soon as lockdown was over there would be a crowd of people outside with burning torches baying for his blood - so perhaps it wouldn't be such a funny idea.
On second thoughts, maybe I could create that blog on his behalf....... (I did say he was nicer than me!).
