Happy Birthday to You

First walk after ankle incident yesterday, beautiful day. Don't think I've ever seen sky locally so blue with no clouds. The sea was like a mill pond, which was useful as my husband is desperate to go back to surfing.

On the subject of husband it was his birthday on Thursday. What a challenge to give somebody a great day when you're stuck in the house - and have been for ages (we're going stir crazy).

I'd like to say I pulled a rabbit out of the hat and 'ta da' I did a million amazing things. But if I did - I would be lying! We tried to do a few things to make the day stand out and we did, but I can't pretend they were astounding.

As it was a nice day we went out into the garden and played dominos whilst having a day time bottle of beer (life on the edge). It was actually very pleasant, but perhaps not thrilling. Then when our son finished his home schooling we had a 70's tastic birthday tea (cocktail sausages, vol-au-vent etc.). It's amazing what you can find when you go to the back of those drawers in the freezer! Sadly no pineapple chunks and cheese - bit of a planning error.

There were 2 events that had greater success. In advance I managed to get hold of the Risk board game (harder to get than I anticipated), anyway - it was something we could do as a family. I certainly remember being a lot better at it when I was a kid. I was trounced about an hour before the rest of the family.

Then once my son had gone to bed my husband and I went out into the garden and in the dark scoured around for random bits of wood (and some old decking) and fed our chiminea until the late hours, whilst drinking a nice bottle of wine. Let's face it alcohol and fire are always a winning combination and often used as the challenge round in the Health & Safety Games.

It will perhaps not go down in history as the most exciting birthday - but hopefully there will be a few memories.

Quick update on a few things (in case you care). I finished the COVID-19 blanket (whoop), so that's done and procrastination over. Knee is better and ankle almost there.

And finally, not sure if it's due to time to tweak recipe or my new flour, but suddenly my home made bread is miraculous. Wonderful after 4 months of stoically eating the worlds worst bread that sucks every bit of moisture from your mouth and sits in your stomach like a lump of lead for 2 days!
