Always a Silver Lining

Well it was my turn for a birthday last week. I can't pretend it was the most amazing birthday I've ever had, but those with me did their best to make it special.

I spent the day sunbathing in the back garden with a Mojito (or two). My mother thinks that I'm old before my time as I spent the money she'd given me on a rocking garden chair with a built in sunshade. Perhaps she's right, but let's face it...... It's a rocking garden chair with sunshade - how AWESOME is that!

Even better it folds up and packs away - given that this was only the second time I had a chance to sunbathe this year it seems nuts having anything more substantial.

We also went for a family walk - my decision on location. We've been slightly house bound as the word has started driving to the coast to use the beach - with a distinct lack of social distancing. Problem is that the locals either have to join the lemmings on the beach or go North.

There's a road near us (literally about 5 mins walk) - I've always wondered where it went. It turns out that it goes into the depths of the South Downs - with trails going off in all directions.

I can't believe we've lived in our current house for 11 years and have never found it before. The views are breathtaking - even better, it's got a proper path - no rabbit holes!

So on my birthday we explored our options and then yesterday we set off with a packed lunch - we only walked about 7 miles, but it was lovely to just be outside without looking at your watch (as a reminder when I read this in the future - until a few days ago you were only allowed out for an hour a day to exercise OR get essential shopping).

We have definitely done the right thing avoiding the beach because as we neared home there were quite a few people wandering back to their cars from the beach. I practically had to use a stick to prod them away as they walked 3 abreast on the pavement. I expect they went home talking about the aggressive locals - well if they did all I can say is that if I'd let rip with what I wanted to say they'd really have had something to talk about.

Grrr
