Teeth, bank, laptops and dogs - in that order

A lot has happened. Son has gone back to school and is back in the swing of things, this is giving me a chance to really get on with 'stuff'.

On Friday I had a visit to the dental hygienist. It's been a long time, my appointment was moved from December and then cancelled in March because of COVID. Don't get me wrong I didn't mind - I hate the hygienist with a passion. Well not the hygienist themselves - but the things they do to you whilst your there. Let's face it - it hurts and it's more painful than any filling a dentist gives you. Then you pay for the privilege.

In the hopes it would be cancelled again I rang the day before to make sure the appointment was happening. Sadly it was. This is a photo of the packed waiting room. Just me and a chair. The hygienist (Oooh spelt it that time without spell check!) came out and took my temperature. I had a glancing hope that my temperature had been up as I'd decided to walk there 30 minutes uphill (or gentle incline as my husband would say - what does he know). But no, it turns out I was good to go.

Hygienist looked like they were auditioning for Silence of the Lambs with medical mask and face shield. Sort of appropriate I thought. Anyway, needless to say teeth were cleaned, but in such a state I've been asked to come back for another appointment to finish it off. Obviously I have mushrooms growing in my teeth.

That excitement over, I've been doing loads of stuff to get my business together. I had the meeting with the accountant and now I've put in for a bank account. On the subject of bank account things are still so rubbish and I think people are using COVID as an excuse. I couldn't get through the account application as the questions were unrelated to my business (irritating), so I rang for support. I was told 'due to COVID our wait times are currently long and you may be waiting for between 1-2 hours'. I had to do this - so I put the phone on speaker and got on with other things whilst I waited.

Turns out there were a lot of other things to be done - including lunch, a wash being put on, finishing and being hung up to dry. I ended up on hold for 3 AND A HALF HOURS!!!! I then had a 5 minute call when they said they couldn't help and they'd get somebody to call me. They haven't by the way!!!

I've also taken the leap and have got myself a laptop - the first laptop I've ever owned myself. This gives me a chance to use it and get used to it before I give my work laptop back. So I spent the whole of yesterday setting it up - getting very frustrated and foot stampy. Fortunately husband is a tecchy so when he was on lunch and at the end of the day he was able to help. Gosh I hate technology.

I'm quietly pleased with it.... so far - watch this space.  Want to know why? It's purple - I mean how cool is that - a purple laptop! Let's see if it actually works and does what I want. But it's PURPLE so it should!

So I'm slowly getting through my 'horrible things to do' list with reference to my business startup. You know, the boring things. I'm doing them first as I know when I get into the creative stuff I'm interested in all the boring things will get put aside. It does mean that life is very very dull right now though, but it's good to be doing something with a purpose.

Also have decided what sort of dog I want (did I mention I wanted a dog?) we've waited 4 years so far until we were travelling for work less. Looks like less travel is more permanent and so we (well son and I, husband isn't keen) have decided to push forward. We had an amazing dog about 6 years ago - Brian - we had 12 wonderful and exhausting years with him (he was a nutter). It took a good 2 years for me to get over his death. He was from a rescue centre a jack russel/staffie Heinz 57 (gosh I miss him). I have decided this time that I wanted a puppy Brian was about 3 when we got him.

I have done loads of research on dog breeds, how healthy they are, how much they shed, what their behaviour is generally like etc. Years of research actually and I've narrowed it down to a few different breeds. But I'm still not buying. COVID has pushed prices up to over 3 times what they were at the start of the year. This worries me because it means that loads of people out there will be forcing their dogs to have puppies to make big bucks. I'm not comfortable with that - quite apart from the fact I refuse to pay £2,500-£3,000 for a dog. Ridiculous!

Later today I've got one of my redundancy calls. The last one I think - the clock is ticking to the 25/9 which is when I get my official 'f()& off'. Then I'm on notice until end December. Tick tock tick tock.
