I'm trying to keep setup costs for a minimum - so under my desk as the bin is a halloween trick or treating bucket. I've set up my office so when my camera is on everything looks all professional. Everything out of sight of the camera is utter chaos. I use the spare room as a dressing room. We call it 'the pit' - it's a bit like a teenagers bedroom. Whenever somebody stays it takes me about 2 hours to de-spade it.
Some of my setup has been less than successful. There are cream curtains in the spare room. I noticed a dirty mark on one that would be 'on camera'. So I got some washing up liquid and water to clean it. There's no dirty mark any more, but now there is a green washing up liquid stain. Hey ho.
Oooh on the subject of stains. Did school uniform wash on Friday and had one of those pink stain situations. 5 very pink shirts that should have been white. Went online and somebody suggested a cup of white vinegar in the machine and a normal wash. Hey presto shirts as good as new. (Slight pause in blog there as I whizzed to my Tesco shop to add more white vinegar to it). Yes, I appreciate it's very sad that I'm excited by the vinegar tip, but I love a 'life hack'.
I continue to do business set up work. It's all a bit turgid at the moment because I'm doing the boring stuff so I can have that out of the way before I start the creative bit I like. Although the clock continues to tick which is giving me sleepless nights.
Next Thursday I'm off furlough and working 50% hours. Basically doing my handover for when I finish in December. It's going to be very strange getting my notebook out and reminding myself what I was doing back in March. Then I need to go back to the office - probably for the last time - to clear out my desk and go through my cupboards. It's all really strange because work has been on hold for so long.
I have no idea if there's anybody working in the office. There are not many of us who work in the building - it's essentially a hangar by the runway. But I think some flights are still going out so there must at least be some crew around. I shall miss working for the travel industry, but if my business doesn't work out I guess I can always return when things build up again. I am not terribly upset about the redundancy because I think that it's going to be a tough situation for quite some time.
On the subject of that - last night they put loads of extra restrictions on people - lots more 'face masking'. Groups of max 6 people, and a pause on the plan to allow larger groups of people to go to sporting events. Although it's still ok to go Grouse shooting (utterly ridiculous). People are also being told to work from home again.
I don't have an issue with face masks like lots of people. I'd also already anticipated Christmas would be not as normal and have arranged for my parents to go to my brothers for the day. He has a much bigger house so it's feasible for mum and dad to stay over. Here I'd need to clean out the 'pit'. It's a real shame but it is what it is, keeping them safe is most important as they are in the 'at risk' age group.
What does really freak me out though is that the Prime Minister has said that they will be bringing the army in to help to keep things safe during events such as demonstrations - of which there are a lot at the moment. What the *(!£!!! So far people are not screaming about this too much - but it scares the bjibbers out of me. What is this Martial Law? Watch this space. Scary times.
Anyway, apparently these new 'laws' could be in place for up to 6 months. I admit I feel massively depressed about all of this. Just a few weeks ago it felt like things were getting better. I've barely been out of my house for 6 months now and have had very little human contact. Yes I have husband and son, but husband is working so doesn't want to talk at end of day and son is at school and also not keen to chat - it takes up important gaming time.
So I've got people around me, but am essentially very lonely. There's also so much I wanted to do this year. Coming up around the corner should be a trip to Berlin I'd booked. Just a long weekend to go to the Christmas Markets. I went to Berlin last December for a business trip and just fell in love with the people and the place. I'd love to go back, but looks like it's not going to happen any time soon. Whose to say that we'll even be able to nip on a flight to Berlin in quite the same way when this is all over.
I consider myself fortunate that I've had a good few years when the UK was part of the European Union (yes I'm a remainer - but I'm over it - the last election put a full stop on the fact that it's what the majority wanted - but it makes me sad). I also was part of a world where you could use airplanes like busses to 'whiz to Amsterdam' for example. On a positive note all of our carbon footprints will improve - and there's no denying how important that is.
Super long blog today, sorry if overlong - but I had a lot I wanted to say.
