I mentioned that I was feeling a bit rubbish and as a result I've started Christmas a bit early at my end. It appears that it wasn't just Christmas.
Our weekly shop turns up..... weekly. It's not a new thing - I've had a lifelong hatred of trying to find things in supermarkets so we've done all our ordering online for as long as I can remember. The benefits definitely outweigh the negatives.
My favorite substitution was one year when my husband's birthday landed on a Thursday. We both had really busy weeks at work so I arranged for 2 Curry banquets to turn up with the weekly shop. The van arrived and everything but the banquets were delivered, they substituted the curry banquets with 2 individual Shepard's pies. Not quite the birthday surprise I'd intended - but there you go.
Anyway... our weekly shop turned up - as ever what I ordered is always a surprise to me. It depends entirely on what my mood is on the Sunday before the delivery. Turns out that I'd gone for major comfort food. I'm not saying it wasn't nice, but I said to my family as we ate our third trash meal in a row (fajita's - haven't done them for years), that this was the last rubbish meal we'd be having for a long time. Explaining we were going back to nutritious meals. Needless to say this was greeted with moans of disappointment. I think the boys were hoping that this was the start of a new exciting food chapter in their lives.
That said, things are going to get a bit more complicated. Out of the blue I've suddenly not been able to get a delivery for the first week of December. I haven't struggled like this since the last full lockdown. It's a bit confusing as surely we'll be through the lockdown by then? Maybe people are anticipating an extension. I hope it sorts out soon as December is a total nightmare for deliveries as it is - and that's not just this year.
Also had to queue outside a shop on Saturday, first time I've had to do that in a little while. Discovered I didn't have any avocado to make into guacamole for the fajitas (yes now you see why this blog is called 'First World Problems, Sussex'). I whizzed down to the nearest shop - as I didn't expect it to take long I didn't even have a coat on. Nearest shop is on the seafront - the wind was blowing such a gale it kept pushing me off my feet. Imagine how thrilled I was to see a queue that meant I'd be standing outside in the elements for an unspecified amount of time.
Needless to say I survived - and.... I know you're desperate to know..... I got the avocados that were required. Huge phew from everybody.
Other than the shops there's really no sign that we're going through another lockdown if you ask me. The streets are full of large groups of people that are clearly not family and the traffic is as busy as ever - potentially busier than normal.
I'm so utterly, turgidly bored that I've started to 'entertain' myself by taking slightly different routes on my walks. If I'd normally go left I go right. I can't pretend it's filling my life with joy and I've already discovered all there is to discover. Perhaps next time I'll try to do the walk blindfolded.
Oooh on that point - I've just taken a huge leap for me. You'll recall I keep twisting my ankle whilst out on walks (so couldn't do a walk blindfolded or I'd have an accident). My wellibobs started to leak - huge crisis I know!!! I've actually not replaced them, but have purchased a sturdy pair of walking boots. See what you've done to me COVID! They really are the ugliest things I've seen in my life, but hopefully will see me through the winter walks it looks like I'll be having. I just need to learn the words to The Happy Wanderer.
That said, so many people have recommended I get a pair I was just digging my heels in not doing just that. So maybe that means I'm a grown up now.
