Son is now on his Christmas break. I'd planned to take a fortnight off over Christmas, best laid plans and all that. Now suddenly I have a load of meetings. All good news about my future - but I really need that break.
It's the same every Christmas isn't it. Everybody wants to cross things off their list before the end of the year. I've suddenly got demands coming in from everywhere - both work and personally related.
The thing is that I love Christmas - so the fortnight around Christmas is really important to me. So I do the whole cross things off my list before the Christmas fortnight. This means that every year I have a mental month before the 2 weeks so I can actually take a break and enjoy the festivities - then I get caught into everybody elses mental month.
But the problem with that is that I've got loads of other things on my list to do and I can't get to them and on top of that I'm exhausted and need a break because I already had my crazy month so I could stop for a fortnight.
So everybody PLEASE JUST STOP IT!
This weekend I handed over all my work stuff - laptop, phone etc. All very final now that's gone. Obviously as soon as I got home I realised there were loads of photos on my phone I didn't download etc. But they've gone now so I just have to get over myself and move on.
I didn't feel sad or anything, I'm so far beyond that now - got my head around redundancy - already cleared desk ages ago - I've really moved on and I'm ready for my future.
I've had to stop listening to the radio as everything is just so gloomy right now. As a 'Remainer' the whole Brexit thing has been tough. But like many of us who wanted to stay - when Boris got his landslide win at the election it made it really clear that it's what the majority wanted. So I'm just having to get over myself and for the sake of democracy accept that I'm not going to get what I want.
It's not a time to point fingers - as a nation we've all got to work together. More now than ever with COVID along with everything else. Personally if there's one thing I know about the British is that when times are tough we can pull together - I have a feeling that there will be a huge push to prove the rest of the world wrong. We can only do that as a team.
So let me think - we talked about Christmas, so that's religion covered, then we talked politics - what's the other 'must have' dinner party conversation..... perhaps we can move onto gun ownership next.....
So anyway, come the zombie apocalypse we're all going to feel pretty foolish that we don't keep guns in the house in the UK. But until then personally I'm quite pleased that we don't. That said I did used to go shooting - I'm a crack shot with a rifle, but beyond rubbish with a pistol. Before you have images of me tromping through the woods taking out local wildlife, this was done at a local shooting range.
As I say - great with a rifle, but if I've got a pistol in my hand the safest place to stand is the place that I'm aiming the gun!
So no I don't think we should have weapons in our house..... next topic....
Unicorns - do they exist - OF COURSE THEY DO!
I think the stress may be getting to me, I think i'd better stop now.
