Happy Valentines

Well it's valentines today. We actually celebrated it yesterday, we don't normally celebrate it at all. However, as my husband and I are both 'work from home' and my son is home schooling we actually never do anything that shows the passing of the days.

This is why last year went past in such a blur only marked by things we missed out on (holiday to Menorca, long weekend in Berlin) and the fact I lost my job. As we managed to have a blast at Christmas and New Year I've decided to do a big thing for any small excuse.

So yesterday we did Valentines (I've got some work to do today). Cards, presents - the works. Husband bought me a new pair of socks - made slightly more romantic by the fact he bought them in a size too small for my son to steal - that may be where all my socks go - but doesn't explain my knickers.

He also wrote me a rather lovely poem that went.... 'roses are red, violets are blue, I can't write poetry and I've just done a poo'. I was quietly impressed with that one - but I suspect that's the secret of our long and successful marriage - it's not too difficult to impress either of us. I bought him a roadsign (fake) of the road his favourite football club is on and a card that said 'overall I love you more than I want to strangle you # winning'.

So as you can see romance is definitely not dead at my house.

I then made a Christmas lunch for supper! If you go back to my Christmas posts you'll see that we had anticipated doing Christmas for my parents and I purchased a spare turkey crown, just in case. Only I got 2 turkey crowns by mistake. We had the big turkey for Christmas - last night we had one of the turkey crowns. I'll save the other in case we're still on our own at Easter. I also had all the trimmings.

Oddly it didn't seem as stressful doing it as it does on Christmas day. I think the secret is doing it for supper rather than lunch.

After sups as a family we then played board games. So overall nothing remotely exciting, but we at least had fun.

Oh and champagne too. Again I made a mistake and I bought 2 bottles instead of one. It was a mistake - honest. I did think that the shop was more expensive than I'd expected. One bottle was rather lovely actually. We saved the empty one so we knew what to purchase next time. Not that we drink champagne all the time, but once in a while is nice..... and mothers day is coming up!
