Christmas and Easter are never a break!

It's always great when you look forward to a long weekend isn't it and gosh I needed this break. The first few months of a new role are always shattering and my new role has been a doozy in the first few months. A new team, with new technology all needing to be set up before I have the chance to actually prove I was worth hiring. Hopefully I've achieved all of that - apart from the bit about being worth hiring. I just finished the setup on Thursday - though don't have team interviewed or in place yet.

So I looked forward to this long weekend. On Friday I rammed in all of my Saturday chores, on top of that we had a friend over in the evening. It's been a long time since we set the 'dining' room up outdoors - so we had to get all of that set up. On top of that I bought a smokeless firepit (that was a success actually) so that had to be set up too.

Anyway, so I did all of my Saturday chores and then did supper for friends, I also needed to prepare for Saturday when my parents came over. We had agreed we'd do the Christmas lunch we were unable to do in December. So now we're talking chores, supper for friends and Christmas lunch preparation for the next day. Oh, yes and visit to Supermarket because shopping delivery failed to deliver ANY of the booze we'd ordered - no replacements apparently (hrumph a likely story) - and visit the butcher to get the meat in.

Woke up Saturday and immediately started the prep for Christmas lunch. Parents turned up - wonderful to see them actually - so nice to be able to see their skin instead of our regular Sunday Teams call. We had a lovely day with a huge lunch. Though somewhat chilly outside. Our Christmas Tree is still going strong - it doesn't have roots or anything, but it's sitting out in the garden where we ate. I should have decorated it - though I think I had enough to do frankly.

Once they left we then curled up and watched a film. Of course we got to about 6pm and son wanted to know what supper is. 'Open the fridge and choose' I said!

Then woke up yesterday (Sunday), feeling really ill. Did a rather worried COVID test just in case I had infected parents - but all was ok. So just spent the day curled up on sofa. Made my way through 3 taster eggs (eg. 3 eggs same size as one large egg) and was promptly sick! Not sure if it was because I wasn't well or maybe I'm just a chocolate lightweight now.

Today is Monday - and I'm off to Bosham to see my in-laws for the first time in a year. Still feeling a little icky (isn't that always the way when you've been busy and you stop). Off in about 10 minutes. Will be nice to see them - but the only chance I've had to relax yesterday was when I felt ill. AND too ill to spend any time drinking Prosecco - what a total waste.

Sister-in-law wanted to catch up yesterday as well. I had to beg to have just one day when I could sit down - it's a nightmare though because you feel guilty for saying no - but none of my family actually work. They all achieved early retirement. Unfortunately I'm an under achiever and thus have many many more years of work ahead of me - but it does mean that as soon as they know you're not working they thing 'excellent' let's fill up all of the time they suddenly have.

Oh, the cake. Rewind back to Friday - where part of what I did was make an Easter cake for parents with my son - and make some mince pies, because there were none in the shops - not even mincemeat!

Tomorrow back to work...... do I feel nice and relaxed after my long weekend???? Do I F..............
