Be careful where you hit pause.....

Where I live it's slightly too far to get down to the beach, do a dog walk and get home all in a single lunch hour. It's ok in the summer because the evenings are lighter so I just do a short walk at lunchtime and take dog for its proper walk in the evening.

However, there's no fun going for a walk by the sea at night - well unless there's a good quality moon up in the sky. I'll be honest I also feel a little intimidated because you don't really know who is going to be down at the seafront and generally it's not people that you'd want to meet on your own (well not around here anyway).

I've had this plan, that I'd hop in the car do a 5 min drive, park, then do a nice walk - back to car and whizz back home and have bum on seat all within an hour. Dog runs around like a mad thing on the beach, so the fact that the walk is less than an hour doesn't really matter - it gets the exercise it needs chasing other dogs and seagulls.

Last Thursday it was a stunning winter day. Pale blue bright skies and no wind. I decided that I was going to give it a go. It was actually really successful - plus I had issues with parking because the machines no longer take cash and I had just shoved a couple of pounds in my pocket (and I refuse to download the parking app - if you use that you've chewed up all your available time and just have to go home).

As a result I needed to drive about a bit to try to find a free space.

Then on the way home, 2 stupids had parked vans on the road coming up to my house. Literally one on either side of the road, right next to each other. So I had to do a detour to be able to get home.

The fact that I achieved the timing with these 2 glitches means I can probably do this more often. I'm going to try to do it at least once a week. Until the evenings start getting lighter at which point I can do it in the evening.

This Saturday son did his first really grown up thing. I dropped him off at the Marina in the evening and hung around until his friends turned up. They went to watch the Eternals together as a group and then after that they all went to 5 Guys for burgers.

I noticed the other boys watching their mums as they walked away - my son didn't even turn his head to see if I was there. I like to think that my poor parenting means that he's actually empowered - others may see this differently!!!!!

He has a great group of friends, all really nice and very trustworthy. It's good to feel that they are unlikely to get themselves into unwanted trouble - especially as we're going to have to let them start to spread their wings (really not easy - I'm full of a million fears).

One of the mums picked them up from the Marina and on their way back to theirs dropped son off at our house. As the other boys live about 30 mins from ours there was a request for a wee stop.

Husband and I had been watching 'The Night Before' a film about 3 friends who get into quit few mishaps on Christmas Eve. Really funny and I can recommend it if you like slightly cringey humour! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway..... it's really not a rude film, adult humour but not filthy in the dodgy way.

There is however this one scene about a booty call text conversation.....

When doorbell rung husband put film on hold. All were invited in and 4 13 year olds came tumbling in with one of the mums. 13 year olds got into a huddle to discuss who knows what whilst they took turns to go to the loo. One of the kids had his younger brother with him who started to explore our sitting room. As he headed towards the telly I looked over and loud and proud on our largish telly was a mobile phone message in full glory saying.... "Of course I've never touched a man's cock before".

Quick as a whippet I ran over and blocked sight of the telly saying to husband to turn it off. Other mum looked quizzically at me - I said "Honest it wasn't a dodgy film". I could tell she didn't believe me. I had to wait until all boys were otherwise engaged - at which point I went over and whispered what had been on screen.

Thankfully she laughed.

Anyway, it was great son had such a good time - he was full of stories when he came home. Of course the downside was the expense. First time I've gone to a cashpoint and punched in for cash to come out - then the cash got removed from the machine and taken away. Essentially I didn't even get my hands on that cash before it disappeared!

The shape of things to come I guess, though I've warned son he'll not be getting wadges of cash like that again. That was definitely a first time one off!!!
