The weather has been lovely for the last week, though it encouraged me to do something I'll probably regret.
I'm absolutely useless in the garden. Pretty much everything I plant just dies. Last week I had a rush of blood to the head and bought some plug plants online. Which arrived towards the end of last week. As it was lovely I decided to plant them - along one of the walls in our back garden.
Then this morning I heard on the radio that the weather is going to turn and under no circumstances should any new bedding plants go in yet. So perhaps not the most dire warning that's happening at the moment, but made me sigh. So once again I've planted something that isn't going to grow.
Though hopefully the trees will do better this year. This time last year all the new leaves came out and we had a series of really hard frosts. So we had an instant autumn. The trees were then bare for months. Fortunately they did recover somewhat as there were still move leaves to come out.
Picture this week is from a photo shoot I did down on the beach. I need some good beach question marks for a project I'm doing at work. All those you find online are so clearly from beaches in the tropics. I needed something that was clearly from UK and thus it needed to show lots of rubbish and old seagull feathers. Though I was quietly pleased that I managed to find a bit of beach without any used condoms. That can be something of a challenge on my local beach.
Yesterday was mothers day. Mum and Dad came over and we went to a pub down on the seafront for a roast. Really good value actually. After eating we went and bought an icecream and joined the throng on the seafront. Literally everybody was out and about - I guess we're trying to ram in some nice stuff whilst we can. And in this instance I mean before the weather changes and it gets cold again. They say there will be snow up in Scotland this week, though they've been a bit hit and miss with their forecasts recently so I don't actually believe this.
Son gave me card and present and on opening card I (meanly) said - what's on the front of the card. Obviously he didn't have a clue - he'd had nothing to do with the card! Husband chose well though :-) and son had written inside with his best handwriting - I'll take that. Present was a cushion with 'A hug from 'son' inside'. I like that (it did have his real name). Dog hates it though because it sits in her sofa spot.
Dog came with us to the pub for lunch and behaved absolutely impeccably - which is great because that opens up other things we can do with her.
We've got a wedding coming up in a few weeks - my 'goddaughter' - not actually, but I've been her unofficial godmother for years. I shared an office with her mother when she was pregnant and then it just seemed strange not to be involved with the rest of her life. Though her mother didn't choose me as a godmother - apparently I wasn't responsible enough (which is fair!).
Anyway, she's getting married in a few weeks - over near Farnham. Son has been invited as well which is nice. The only problem is we're a very scruffy family. Much more set up to tromp in woods and mud, go surfing and generally bring down the general neighbourhood. I managed to cobble together an outfit from clothes I used to wear before I go pregnant (14 years ago) and for son managed to get him a jacket from ebay.
Husband was a different matter. He only has one suit - he bought it about 25 years ago for another friends wedding. When we got married he didn't even buy a different suit - as far as he was concerned he had a perfectly good suit so why would he get another one (I was actually ok with this, but demanded he bought a new tie and belt!).
But even husband realised that a 25 year old suit may be a little out of fashion by now. So on Saturday he and I got in the car and went out shopping for a suit. Managed to get one too - a really nice one - I shall actually be quite proud to be out with him looking so smart.
The other thing we realised is that we never ever, I mean literally never ever, go out and do stuff just the two of us. It's always either alone or with son. Though now son is older he can actually spend a bit of time alone (he doesn't like to be alone for too long). We had such a lovely time we decided that next Sunday we're going to go out and do something together again. Just like a normal couple.
Though that said, it's not going to happen. This weekend we are a 2 dog family my sister in law is dropping off her dog on Friday evening and it will be picked up on the following Tuesday. So I'm expecting to be telling stories of absolute bedlam in my blog next week as my dog may have some issues with her castle being invaded.
Watch this space.
