Another super busy week at work last week. Trying to get to the other side of a huge project. I thought I was about half way through it, but spent time doing some analysis and I'm actually only about a quarter of the way through it.
The problem is I have a number of new starters coming over the next month that I need to spend time with - I was trying to get it finished beforehand. Still you can only do what you can do.
Every morning I come into what I call 'shit bombs'. People wait until they know I've finished for the evening and then fire an email over to me with a problem - or a partially completed activity they should have been doing.
By doing it at the end of the day - in their brain it means it's off their list for the next day. The result of this is that I've started to dread turning on my computer every day. I just did it before writing this blog and the world has excelled itself today. I have the grand total of 4 shit bombs.
Now normally it would take about half a day to resolve these, but today I have a new starter coming at 9.00. I'm actually considering just deleting them and seeing what will come of it. One way or another I'm going to lose it totally if this continues.
Son is on Easter holidays at the moment. Last week one of his friends came over and with hopes of being surprised by his money management I put a load of cash on his new bank card.
Really good actually, works just like a real bank card, but is aimed at kids. Importantly it's not one of these ones where you can watch what they spend money on and stop them spending money in particular places. I actually hate that idea - I think it will just teach kids to hide things.
Aaaanyway, dropped son and friend off at Marina to go out for meal. They promptly went out and got the cheapest burger they could find, then went to the Arcade and blew their entire cash balance on playing machines. Then just an hour and a half later they called and asked to be picked up because they'd run out of money. I'm not going to tell you how much money was on that card because you'll be disgusted, but it was a LOT!
They tried to tell me this was ok, because they'd won about 20 refresher sweets with their arcade winnings (well that's ok then, I thought....................... OBVIOUSLY).
I can't say it was unexpected and it was a bit of a lesson on money management, but essentially they just blew what would be my entire disposable income for a month in an hour and a half! I'm not sure who the life lesson ended up being for. Though I think son could see how horrified I was (I didn't have a go, it was my fault), he's a good lad, so we'll see if some sort of lesson was learnt by him as well as me.
Friday was a Bank Holiday, I had quite a bit of work to do and so did about 4.5 hours in the morning, without interruption - though did pick up a few shit bombs from close of play Thursday. Then we went to see some family and husband went to football. This was mum's 80th Birthday - it was husbands family's turn to have us (my family gets Christmas), but plans with mum come later.....
Saturday was a normal chore day - so went to butchers. On route dog got leapt on by another dog that started humping it. It was only later in the day I realised dog was on heat for the first time. Fingers crossed we got the other dog off it in time. I'd be mortified if she had puppies before she was even 1 years old. Needless to say I'll be keeping her on the lead and out of doggie areas for a while.
After butchers I spent the day cooking to prepare for the Sunday.
Not only was Sunday Easter, but it was to be the celebration of mum's 80th - like the Queen she has quite a few celebrations. On the Friday she went to my brothers, Sunday was my turn to treat her.
We decorated the whole of the sitting room and dining room with 80th decorations (see photo) and I made an enormous Roast with about 20 different veggies. That was followed by about 5 puddings (birthday cake, simnel cake, muck [a family recipie], rasberries and excitement of excitement a vienetta birthday cake - yes you heard me right - a vienetta birthday cake!!!!!) This was followed by cheese.
Needless to say by the end of all of this none of us could move properly.
I think that we made mum feel special, at least I really hope we did. She has a huge celebration happening in a few weeks. I'll not ruin the surprise though as that will obvs be the blog for that week.
So that was Sunday, then yesterday we went around to one of husband's brothers - near Portsmouth. The sun was out and it was a lovely day. Before we went I took dog for a walk, couldn't take her to sea front or to the nature reserve as I needed to keep her away from dirty boy dogs. So I took her on a path across the downs. It's one I posted about that we discovered during lockdown.
There were loads of new born lambs gambling around and bleating - really cute. I saw the farmers 4x4 driving around the fields erratically and wondered what was happening so stood and watched. They'd drive in one direction stop then get out and then in another, stop, get out. Then he drove in the direction I was in (I was on the road looking down the hill at this). Sure enough he came close to me where a sheep was lying down. He stopped and got out. The sheep was actually giving birth.
So yesterday morning I actually watched a lamb being born. HOW COOL IS THAT!
The whole of my husband's enormous family were there. It really is such a huge family - mine is tiny in comparison as it's just my mum and dad and brother and I, brother and I are both married - but both only had one kid. So my family all together is the grand total of 8.
Husband's immediately family is huge. His parents have both died sadly, but he is one of three brothers. Plus husband was a 'surprise' so his nearest brother is 18 years older. This means their many kids (one had 2 and one had 3) are now grown up and starting to get married and one of those has had the first baby making husband's brother a grandpa. So the grand total there comes to 16!
And this is the 16 I cater for just before Christmas every year.
As I say the sun was out so we spent the afternoon in the garden which was lovely. The only problem is that when the sun went in it was freezing. At the end of the day we had the whole 16 in a tiny corner of the garden - the only corner with the sun. Quite funny actually because my brother-in-law was in the house - he came out of the house to be presented with 17 people all with chairs facing towards the house squished into a 6 foot area of the garden. The look of confusion on his face was priceless.
After that we dropped husbands nephew and his fiancé home. They've just moved into a street in Brighton that is remarkably like the one my husband and I moved from when we moved into our current house. The house is practically identical. I'd love to go inside to take a look.
I actually loved our old house. The only problem with it is that there were too many houses around it and you never saw the sky. Actually their's is better placed as it's on the top of a hill and so you can see right over to the Downs when you leave the house. They also said that there are no houses directly behind so they also get a view right across Brighton.
So I think a much better spot than the one we had.
Anyway, a busy few days, but now I need to get heads down and back to my somewhat grotty week of work.
