First of all some good news, I wrote last week about my c*ck up with the tickets I purchased for husbands birthday. I wrote to the theatre and asked if they'd put them back in the pot and if they were sold reimburse me.
They were amazing - they just immediately reimbursed the incorrect tickets. It absolutely made my day - not used to things being that easy!
Husbands birthday went really well (I hope), he had a nice stash of presents.
I started the day early - I've got so much work on at the moment I wanted to get some done, but didn't want it to impact his big day.
So I started work at 4.00am and worked through until he woke up at about 08:30. I then made him his ideal breakfast - basically carbs and lots of MEAT. Seemed to go down well.
He then opened his presents and cards. Once I was comfortable he was a happy bunny I took dog out for a walk. By the time I got back he was in his happy place - at the computer playing games!
Around lunchtime we decided to go for a walk at Amberley. We've been there a few times, but we tend to go to the museum and stick to the bit on the main road. This time we walked along the riverbank for about an hour.
Suddenly we turned the corner and there in front of us was Amberley Castle. There are loads of castles in my neck of the woods. Most of them are quite unimpressive and small, but I always love to turn a corner and see a castle.
In fact the best castle experience in Sussex is Bodium. It's such a stunning castle. Quite ruined on the inside, but really impressive on the outside. We went there once on the Tenterden Railway. That's one of those railways you get where a bunch of enthusiasts have done up old steam trains and you can take trips on them. All the stations etc. are set up as they would have been 'back in the day'.
So we took a steam train journey and the last stop was Bodiam. You get off the steam train and there about a mile away is Bodiam Castle for you to walk to. A very cool day. Though we did get mugged by over fed ducks as we sat on the lawns eating lunch. They basically circled us like thugs and stole our sandwiches!
I'll shove a quick picture in - it's not one of mine it's the National Trust picture of it..... I can't be bothered to go back through my photo files. In fact I may not have taken one - these days I don't really bother with things like taking pictures of the castle (unless it's for the blog) as you can find the pics so easily on the internet. I save the photos for pics of people or things that catch my eye that will not be available anyway.
Aaaanyway, back to husbands birthday. Walking through Amberley village was lovely - a real step back in time. It's obviously a very expensive area to live in - all the cars were very high end! What was amazing was that you really didn't get a feel for the fact there was a busy road just around the corner. After our trip to Amberley we came back home and I got a birthday 'tea' ready. Lots of lovely nibbles and obviously copious amounts of wine.
A friend came over and her son set up a show for Andy - which largely involved singing Happy Birthday..... a lot.
So that was it really - a quiet birthday, but husband seemed to enjoy himself and that's what's important.
Sunday things got back to normal - again I spent a huge amount of the day working, but when I wasn't working I was doing the chores I didn't have time to do on Saturday (how deeply thrilling is my life).
So no great stories to tell, but I'm pleased that husband had the birthday he wanted.
