Happy 80th Mum (again)!

Saturday was mum's 80th Birthday Party. We were so lucky the weather was stunning. It rained for days beforehand and was freezing, then suddenly on the big day the sun came out and there was wonderful (and not too hot) sunshine.

I got up about 5.00am to get all the pre-planning done. Made a packed lunch for family, got the bubbly out of the fridge (mum had shared out the fizz so different people could chill it in their fridges) and into cooler bags, took dog to a friends on the other side of town, got sons clothes ready, got myself ready and then we set off! (not sure how that took me so much time to be honest).

Aaanyway, mum had booked a canal boat for 50 for a 'cruise' down the canal from Loxwood. The family arrived an hour early to decorate the boat and get things ready. We all had our tasks to do.

Sister-in-law took over most of the pre-setup, my job came when people arrived. Boys were on fizz and I was on canape. I spent the next 2 hours walking up and down the boat force feeding people who were already full as there had been so much to eat.

It was nice to see my parents friends, many of whom I have not seen since I was about 15. As I've aged at the same speed as them they were all very recognisable to me.

I did notice it was only women (40 of them!), I'm not sure if that was a decision from mum or whether they've all outlived their husbands (hopefully the former, though I know a lot have passed on).

Everybody had a lovely time (well the guests anyway), whilst it was perhaps not my choice of a Saturday thing to do, it passed quickly and I was thrilled to see mum have such an amazing time.

She rang later in the day to say it was the best day of her life. I felt it was perhaps a bit sad to wait until you were 80 for that and didn't point out that it made it better for her than the day I was born (hee hee). That said I can never understand why people say the day their kid was born was the best day of their life. It certainly wasn't mine, both son and I nearly died and I had a hatchet taken to my bits (tmi???).

Though obviously I'm thrilled about the output of the day (son), but I don't think it was the best day for either of us the day he was born.

Once we got home I spaded out my study, which is also my dressing room and our spare bedroom. We've got our first guest staying for over 2 years (thanks to COVID). I moved my study downstairs to the dining room and tidied and cleaned the spare room. I'd forgotten it could look that tidy.

Then I actually got to sit down - all very exciting.

Not much more to chat about this week as I'm working 14 hour days, so all I could talk about was work.

I shall therefore keep it all short and sweet this week.
