This weekend a friend came to stay - the first friend who has stayed at our house in 2 years. Not that we had people to stay a huge amount before. But because of COVID and the way things seem to have changed - this was our first visit.
Really nice to see the friend, though had to be strict on what we talked about. Friend who stayed had left other friend I recently visited in Scotland during COVID. I can't say how desperately sad I am that they have broken up.
However, I don't want to pick sides, we have so much history. I actually met friend in Scotland when she started dating the friend who stayed over. They set me up with my lovely husband (with whom I have been together for about 25 years - married for 20 - and very happy thank you very much - at least I am!).
At our wedding we kept it small and only invited 2 friends, she was my maid of honour and he was husbands best man.
It would have been totally bizarre not to have stayed in touch with both. Although I refused to discuss my friend in Scotland with him. I didn't want to hear why he left or to be forced to show any sympathy (if deserved!). So I insisted we talked about anything but friend in Scotland.
It seemed to work as we managed to have a really nice catchup and it was great for husband to have a boy he could ugg with and watch sport. Something he doesn't get much of a chance to do.
Friend wanted to know everything about where we lived and it was quite fun actually - we walked around the area and took in sights and sounds. Many of which I knew were in the area, but had never bothered to actually visit. It's always the way when you know things are just around the corner.
So I knew that Gary Moore was buried in the local church that was linked to the primary school son went to, but I'd never actually bothered to look for his grave.
We spent ages looking at every gravestone and then when we found it I felt quite silly - OF COURSE it would be the grave covered in plectrums and amps etc. etc. It's nice to know that people visit and leave gifts - demonstrates the impact he had on great music.
Also saw a pirates gravestone - which is cool. Son showed it to us, explaining that as he was a pirate fanatic at junior school the local vicar had showed him the gravestone. It even had a skull and crossbones on it.
We did things like touch the lucky face in the wall and spin around, we tried to see the amazing stained glass windows in the church, but it was shut, we went down to the seafront and had a wander and a coffee, then walked up on to Beacon Hill to take in the windmill and wander back home.
It was a great reminder about what an amazing place I live in I'm very spoilt.
On Sunday I pulled a 16 hour day of work. But it was worth it. I've almost finished the HUGE project I've been working on. For about 8 weeks I've been working 14 hour days, six days a week to get to the end of it. The last bit is going to be the toughest as I'm relying on others to do activity - up until now it's been 'all about me'.
I just need to get it over the line - once it's totally finished I'm taking a week off to SLEEP (and hopefully sort the garden out - as it looks like a jungle).
I find that now I've done the really hard bit and I'm nearly at the end I'm suddenly shattered. I could literally shut my eyes and go to sleep. Right now!
As it looks like I'll be off during the jubilee I'm going to see if there's something going on locally. As son will be on half term it will be a good chance for him to have a nice memory of something. Though I'm not too hopeful. We don't really live in that kind of area. Plus it's very hypocritical of me as I'm one of those ghastly people that doesn't believe in the monarchy and thinks they are freeloaders. Apart from the Queen who is utterly amazing. But after that.....
Anyway, that's me for this week. Very close to my break, super excited!
