Gosh a lot has happened

Since I last posted so much has happened.

Firstly, and importantly - I came to the end of my HUGE project. Well at least I hope I did. I mentioned in my last post that I was relying on others to get to the final hurdle. Needless to say as soon as I lost total control of the project things did not go at the speed I so desperately needed.

In the end I couldn't put one foot in front of the other any more and so I took my break and left it in the hands of others. I'll find out later today when I start work whether things got launched in time.

The first few days of my break were actually quite frantic. The garden needed sorting out and not in a small way. I spent about 10 hours on it in total. It definitely looked a lot better when I finished, but looking at it today after all the rain, it looks exactly as it did when I started work on it!

All I can do to make myself feel better is to think what it would have looked like if I hadn't spent the 10 hours on it.

My birthday was just over a week ago. I didn't have any huge plans, but as I knew it was an opportunity to get my family to do things I wanted without moaning, I decided that I'd like to do a lengthy walk along the seafront.

I think we walked about 8 miles in total. My legs had completely given up by the end of it. I've simply got to get to the doctor to get them to look at my knees, I think they have had it. I'll lose a bit of weight first and see if that makes a difference. Basically I've put on loads of weight recently because I was eating just to get energy to get through that project. Hopefully now the project is over my appetite will return to normal.

Very exciting birthday present from husband he bought me a 2 seater Kayak - something I've wanted for ages. Now I just need to get us to a point that we're actually using it. Which is a bit of a pressure to be honest as our diary is very full for the next few months.

The next thing was taking time off with son. He was amazing actually - his normal surly teenage self took some time off and he was an absolute pleasure to be around. I took him to the greyhounds on Wednesday and discovered that he's an absolute betting wizard. We were only betting small amounts (£1 per race) and we did a bet on 7 races. I didn't win a single race - he came home with a profit of £4.

All in all it was a good decision to go to the greyhounds - I'd booked us an afternoon tea there - which was totally yummy - though again added to my weight gain.

Then later in the week the Queen's platinum jubilee started. I mentioned previously that I'm not a monarchist, but I didn't want a national event to pass without me taking part in anything.

On the Thursday evening they lit beacon's right the way across the country and as I live at the bottom of a hill called 'Beacon Hill' it will come as no surprise that the Beacon was to be lit. That's the photo with this post.

One moment of excitement happened when the Beacon fell over whilst alight - As the hill is covered in long grass I had images of the whole thing going up in flames with us all standing there. But those who had planned it had done a good job of keeping things safe.

For Christmas husband and I had been given a voucher to our favourite restaurant The Gingerman. We had a date on the Saturday night when we had our first chance to use it. There had been a 6 month waiting list. As it was the first time we were going to leave son on his own he invited a friend around so he had company.

I told them we'd be back around 11.00. The problem was our table was a 7.00 and when we finished eating it was raining really heavily with a horrible wind. As a result we decided we didn't want to wander through town - we just wanted to get home. We ended up back home by about 9.30 - much to the horror of son and friend who were looking forward to a long night of freedom. (Food was lovely btw).

Then on the Sunday there was a local picnic - so husband and I went there - not for long to be honest but just to show our faces and be part of the local community (for the grand total of one hour!).

Son wasn't with us as he'd gone to a party with his friends. I was going to say he couldn't go as I wanted us all at the picnic. However, I realised that I'd just end up with a very moody teenager and so decided to let him 'run with the wolves'.

So that's it really -  lots of different bits and bobs - I'm about to start work again. Wish me luck as I start trawling through a week and a half of emails!
