I suppose I should be relieved after all the occurrences last week that I'm a little disappointed because things are not quite where I want them to be.
Lots of things turned up for the study last week. A new pedestal, desk (more later), filing trays, a carpet to cover the green post cat poo stain and most importantly - a nice picture to go behind my head (see photo with post).
Picture of lighthouse should look really cool when I'm doing video meetings. In fact I ended up buying a second one to go on the wall in front of my desk because it gives an amazing feeling of space.
The feeling of space is really important to me. It's why we ended up moving from the centre of town. I simply couldn't cope with having buildings all around me and not being able to see the sky. Our new house isn't as nice as the old one, but there's an amazing feeling of space around it because it's on a hill. This means we don't have any houses higher than ours and the sky is all around us. Maybe I should live in a lighthouse (though maybe not - the stairs!!!).
I had two disappointments this weekend - neither the end of the world, but basically they were still disappointments. Husband worked tirelessly on Saturday to set up the study. He took apart the bed in the spare room and moved it down to our bedroom - also (obviously) taking apart the bed in the bedroom.
I'm trying to get rid of the bed that was in our bedroom on the next door App, but stupidly didn't take a photo before we took it down. I'll leave it outside the house and somebody will take it away because it's made of metal and anything metal magically disappears if you leave it out with a 'take me' sign on it. Though I'm going to have to get the council to come and take away the mattress.
Once all of that was done - the next step was to put the desk together. Sadly it turns out they have delivered the back and the top, but no legs! I rang to chase these and I'm a bit concerned that they didn't seem remotely motivated to sort it out. So husband and I are going to double prong the whinge attack. I'm going to keep onto the delivery company until they deliver it just to get rid of me and he's going to do the same with the company we purchased it from. Watch this space.
As a result I'm still working from the same setup I always have, though I have a bit more space as we've moved the desk forward. But the room is chaos because until the new set up is in place I don't know which other bits of furniture can stay and which will go.
Oh I forgot to mention the dust bunnies under the bed!!!!! Literally you could have made an entire family of rabbits out of them. There was even a bauble under our bed that goes back to when son was about 3 and I was teaching him what Christmas was (because I wanted somebody to enjoy it as much as me).
Other disappointment was pumpkin picking. Every year son and I go to a local pumpkin patch. I hunt out the small yellow ones as they are yummy to eat (actually a squash, not a pumpkin - but the pumpkin patch does all sorts of different ones). Son always looks for the biggest he can find.
I was chuffed to bits that he wanted to do it again this year, because he's getting to that age where there are lots of things he used to love to do that are now very uncool.
So anyway, we got in the car and drove about 10 miles to go to our very special pumpkin patch. Only to find it was shut. I was fuming as I'd checked online before we set off. Basically it had been raining really heavily and you have to park on a field at the patch. They had shut it for the day because otherwise they would have had about 200 cars to pull out of a muddy field.
I couldn't argue with their reasoning, but it was disappointing none the less. I normally take this week off to have half term with son, but I've totally messed up my holiday allowance this year and so am working this week. I have no idea how I'm going to get to the pumpkin patch again before Halloween.
It rained all night last night so I'm guessing it's shut again tomorrow. On Friday son is going for a sleepover with a friend, so when he gets back on Saturday he'll be in a tired blue funk and then my parents are over on the Sunday.
I may end up having to get one of those rubbish pumpkins from the Supermarket. But if I do it still means that we miss out on the fun of pumpkin picking again.
Because we didn't go pumpkin picking we went to the local garden centre to buy some Halloween chocolates for him to take to the sleepover. In itself that was nice. Until I started my new job I didn't work on Mondays, this meant that son and I used to do lots of different things together on Monday and the most common one was the Garden Centre. I know it sounds dull, but when you have a young kid they are amazing. Lots of different things to look at and do - it's like a free day out.
So it was nice doing it with son again - much to my utter joy all the Christmas Decorations had arrived as well. I would have spent hours looking at them, but son started to lose it with me. We also looked to buy him some wellies - as his feet have grown. There wasn't much choice but we found a pair.
Once he'd extracted me from the Christmas stuff and we'd found some Halloween chocolates we took them and the wellies to the till. That will be £56 they said - whaaaaaaat. Turns out that the wellies were about £52. These were not special wellies or branded ones or anything. Needless to say I handed them back. Our bill immediately dropped to £4. Much more palatable (hope you're impressed with the maths I just did).
When I got home I managed to find a pair of wellies for him on the Internet. Poor kid - he just doesn't have the sort of parents that are prepared to pay more than £15 for anything. Though I do point out to him that all my friends without kids are far richer than we are! So technically it's his fault :-).
Anyhoooo - if that's my biggest problem at the end of this week I guess it will have been a good week.
We may have our third Prime Minister in about 5 months by the end of today. Utterly ridiculous. We need a General Election because this whole thing is really messy at the moment.
