Short and sweet this week I expect.
Towards the end of last week (a VERY busy week at work) I got a message to say that one of the magazines my son (or rather I) delivers had arrived.
So on Saturday morning I forced son into car and we went off to pick them up. I took the dog with me as well so that we could take her around with us and then throw a few balls in the park.
With son I delivered about 150 of them. He was a reasonably useful partner, though he got bored easily and for at least 50 of those he was in the car on his phone whilst I delivered.
I then spent the rest of Saturday doing an EPIC cook. Trying to get as much done for the evening when we had a friend over and prepare for Sunday lunch when my parents were over.
First thing Sunday I went out and did another 2 roads of magazine delivery before finishing off the dog walk (had dog with me again).
The only problem with taking the dog out with me is that where I live we are built into a hill. So most houses either have a steep drive (like our house) or they have steps going up to the door. The dog hates doing the steps and so on many occasions the dog is standing at the bottom of the steps, with me at the top Stretching to try to reach the letterbox.
Once parents had gone I headed out again (tried to get son to come with me, but he was being snarky and I just wanted to get it done). I didn't take the dog out as I was getting a bit achy from the stretching.
The light was beginning to go and I have a groovy hat with a light in it - which I put on. At the start of the delivery this was amazing and really lit my way well. But I got into the zone and ended up delivering about 70 magazines. Each house with a steep drive or steps up.
Turns out the battery life on the hat isn't great. By the end of my delivery I was basically leaning over to light my feet as many of the drives and steps were in total darkness.
I did get visited at one point as husband was worried I'd been gone so long (bless him) so came to find me whilst walking the dog. He said he found me because all he could see in the distance was this disembodied light bobbing backwards and forwards up and down the drives (that was the hat).
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, the reason I was on a mission was because I'm aware that we're going to have another magazine by the end of the week. It's just so annoying they don't come at the same time.
I've woken up this morning. My knees have stopped working and my back is completely thrown out from the stretching.
Now I know why these are jobs for young people. I just wish my young person had the motivation to do it. I'm not sure we're going to last the winter at this rate. I have quite enough to do without doing a 3rd job (being a mum being job number 2).
