Another hectic week at work. I was in Lee-on-the-Solent for much of the working week. Staying in hotels again. I'm spending so much time away from home at the moment. The problem is the places I'm travelling to are at least 2 hours away.
The road from where I live is a nightmare, so often the journeys take around 3 hours each way. I don't mind doing that every now and then, but it's become somewhat weekly.
I hate staying in hotels. I never get a decent night's sleep in them. I always forget to take my pillow from home. That would make all the difference. However, last week I also forgot to take a hot water bottle. Big mistake! I'm not sure why hotels insist on keeping their rooms at sub zero temperatures, with air conditioning pumping in even when it's snowing outside. The thermostats never work either. So a hot water bottle for a night in a hotel is an essential.
The journey back home on Thursday was horrific. I didn't get to set off until 19:00, by which time it was dark. It was raining so hard I couldn't even see the road. As a result I drove home slowly hugging the left hand side of the road as much as I could. In fact I was hugging it so hard on two occasions I suddenly found myself going up a slip road. Then had to work out a roundabout to get back onto the A27.
Thankfully when I got about half way home (Arundel) the rain stopped. The last part of the journey was a dream. Up until then I'd seriously been considering pulling over, I wasn't sure I was going to make it home alive, but there just wasn't anywhere to pull over and I didn't know how long the rain would continue for. Let's face it - it's been raining for about 4 months so far!
Needless to say I got home safely. Yay.
Saturday morning was hugely exciting. I woke up and the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Yes really. I got a bit heady and dressed up in summer clothes. Dog and I headed off to the butchers. I was about half way there when I realised I'd been ambitious. I was freezing. However, the sun didn't go away and I wasn't rained on.
When I got back home I quickly got dressed in proper winter clothes again. Chiding myself for being so hopeful.
Husband had friends over in the evening. Old school friends, they've stayed a group for years. I'd decided to go to Cafe Rouge in the evening with son. Husband hates Cafe Rouge, but I've always liked it. Son and I are also obsessed with muscles and it's a great place to go to get a steaming pot of muscles at a reasonable price.
So we headed to Brighton Marina and wandered to Cafe Rouge. It was shut (which was unusual). I went online to find out what time it was opening - only to discover that it's shut down for good and there are only about 5 Cafe Rouge left around the country.
Absolute disaster!!!! Teenage son acted like it was my fault.
Anyway, in the end we went next door to Prezzo. We had a really lovely time actually - he's great company. Whilst waiting for food we played Uno, both of us are rubbish without entertainment.
The food at Prezzo was ok, let's face it it's pretty standard. Neither of us went for Pizza though, so you sort of take your life in your hands. Sons lasagne had been heated up in microwave so we had to wait about 15 minutes before it was cool enough to eat. I ordered a ceasar salad. They'd obviously run out of ingredients because all it was was chopped up lettuce heart with barely any dressing.
I'm not sure I'll be rushing back to Prezzo to repeat the meal, but certainly I have fond memories of the event because son was such great company.
Husband's friends stayed overnight. So dog was in our room with us (or she'd bark the house down every time somebody moved). Dog woke me up at 3.30am because she decided it was time for breakfast. I told her to go away, so she woke me at 3.35am, then 3.40am, then 3.45am. Needless to say dog got her breakfast at 3.50am!
I was shattered for the rest of the day. Husband was hung over for the rest of the day.
So let's just say that Sunday was a somewhat quiet day in the house.
Anyway, that's it for this week.
