The daisy's are out in force now, but it still doesn't feel very much like spring. My back garden is about to hit its peak. Every spring it's full of bluebells and looks absolutely gorgeous. Then those are the only flowers that grow for the whole of the rest of the year.
As everything has died on the patio I'll be replanting soon, I may even go as far as getting something that flowers. Though I'll probably kill it immediately. I seem to be good at that.
I've just had a great weekend. On Friday I finished work and then immediately transformed my study into the spare room setting up the sofa bed. From then I drove up to Gatwick where a bestist friend was flying down from Glasgow. Very exciting.
Now normally when we meet the bottles open and we end up partying until about 4 in the morning. She's starting a new job and so on Friday we decided to be good - and guess what - we didn't drink. I'm not sure who was prouder or more surprised, my friend, me or my husband. I certainly know which one of us was the most relieved!
Asleep by 11.30 we were then able to get up early in the morning. The sun was out, the wind was down and importantly there was no rain!!!!! So we walked down to the seafront with dog for some breakfast. I think that everybody was thrilled to have a day without rain and everybody was out raising their faces to the sun - out of hybernation.
We wandered home - on route I got a call from husband asking me to get some sink unblocker because the sink in the kitchen had blocked up. Too late - I was walking across a hill at that point. We arrived home and picked up our stuff and I left my poor husband with a list of chores including unblocking the sink. I left him as he was pouring a kettle of boiling water into the sink and attacking it with a plunger.
We drove to another bestist friend in Horsham and left our car there, switching to travel into Horsham town centre in their car. And a really lovely weekend begun.
Horsham friend has MS and so walking is difficult, they'd arranged the most amazing weekend within about a 50m radius - all with good wheelchair access. Our weekend started by going to an EveryMan cinema - sitting outside on a balcony drinking wine in the sunshine. Bliss. We then went in to see Back to Black the Amy Winehouse film. It was good, but I got a little over emotional and in the end I had to go and sit outside and wait for the film to end.
I loved the EveryMan - whilst we were in there we enjoyed some more wine and some nibbles. I totally approve of that.
Then it was time to get ready for the evening. We got our cases from the hotel and went to get our rooms. Only to discover that only two rooms had been booked. Now friend who had flown down and I used to spend loads of time together in our youth and because we never quite new where we'd be we often ended up sharing a room. So we though - why not - for old times sake. Once we'd decided that we went to other friends room and had, can you guess..... some wine.
In the evening we went to a restaurant and had yummy food (and more wine....). By then we were more than a a little tiddly and so the evening started to wind down a bit. We nattered for a bit and then it was time to crash out.
As normal I woke early - feeling worse for wear. As friend was sharing I didn't want to wake them. I snuck out and fortunately in the foyer of the hotel there was a vending machine with some diet coke (it wasn't a posh hotel!). After I'd belted one of those down I felt a lot better - but it was still early. At 07:30 there was a Starbucks that opened opposite the hotel - so I wandered over and got myself a drink. Friend was still asleep. In the end I quietly got dressed and then just went for a wander around Horsham.
I actually lived in Horsham, years ago. It's where husband and I met (along with the friends I was meeting - we all worked for RoyalSunAlliance). So much of it was exactly as I remember, but the town is about 4 times the size now and so there was a lot of new stuff to be nosy about.
Arriving back at the hotel, friend had woken up. We'd arranged to meet up with other friend at about 10.00 so we went for another wander around Horsham. Coming back we went up to see our other friend and we had a bit of time to kill before breakfast. So I had my third walk around Horsham in one morning. Quite the tourist spot!!!!!
Our final bit before ending our time together was to go to Bill's for breakfast. Yummy. By now I was beginning to feel shell shocked with tiredness. So whilst the others nattered I sat there just absorbing the conversation.
All done Horsham friend dropped my other friend off at Gatwick and I drove home. You will recall I'd left husband with boiling water and a plunger sorting out the sink. On arrival husband was still pouring boiling water and attacking the sink with plunger - but a new one - because the old plunger had broken!
After saying hi, he first thing I did on arrival was drop my suitcase walk to our bedroom and basically sleep. Lovely. Waking feeling a bit better I went downstairs - just as husband managed to clear the blockage in the sink. You've got to admire his staying power.
Anyway, that was my weekend. Really lovely.
