Stuff and ting

Sadly I didn't have my phone on me to take a photo, so you're just going to have to believe me. Nearly lost the dog this morning. We went for a walk and were in an open field, I heard the cry of a bird of prey, not unusual around here.... DIVERSION..... I remember about 10 years ago and earlier it was incredibly rare to see a bird of prey, now you see them everywhere. Whatever they did to rewild they did an amazing job. AAANYWAY.

.. I ignored it at first, but it was quite insistent. I looked up and about the height of 2 trees up there was a very large bird of prey circling the dog. I ran over to the dog and waved my arms and the bird swooped off and continued on its way.

Now that was a close call. Quite cool though.

On Monday I woke up and inexplicably, somehow in the night, I had burst a blood vessel in my eye. Not the most attractive thing. I did benefit though because it gave me an excuse not to be on camera for meetings for the week. You'd have thought that I'd realise how it happened, but literally not a clue!

Weekend was busy. On Friday magazines for son to deliver were dropped off (deep joy). I had intended to start delivering in the evening, but got to the end of the day and felt shattered. Plus I needed to pull things together ready for the next day....

On Saturday morning where I live was doing a 'yard' sale. I've never done one of those before, but as you know we have stacks of stuff piling up to go to car boot. So being able to set up at home was great. It started at 10.00. So on Saturday I got up really early to take the dog for a walk, with a plan to start setting things up at 09:30.

At around 09:25 the heavens opened, it was literally throwing it down with rain. I sat at the window watching. At around 10:03 the rain stopped so I went out to start setting up - and suddenly there was a rush of people. We were literally setting up and people were already looking at what we had. I was quite excited because I thought 'we're going to get rid of everything in 10 minutes at this rate'.

I was wrong, we didn't see anybody else for about another hour. The problem being that we are right at the end of the village, about a 10 minute walk from the main high street. Turns out that there were loads of people doing the sales in the centre, but then there was a 5 minute walk before you got to us - so people were not bothering to make the effort.

We then ended up playing a game with the rain. Suddenly it would start raining again and we'd move things indoors, then somebody would turn up and we'd take things outside again. In the end I found some shower curtains I'd purchased back when dog was a puppy - to save the carpets whilst we house trained her. I put these over the things we had put out.

So this meant the new game was, the rain would stop and I would take the covers off, then the rain would start again and I'd put the covers back on. By the end of the 3 hour stint I was just leaving the covers on and if anybody did come to 'our neck of the woods' I'd peel them off.

We made about £40 - so better than nothing, most was for son because it was his old toys. Apparently next summer they will be done more regularly - once a month or something - so hopefully more people will set up stands and we'll not be so remote. Ideally half the people will start in the centre of the village and half will start on the outskirts where we are. Then we'd end up with a steady stream of people.

In the evening husband went to a party in Winchester (I don't DO parties), son and I met a friend at Prezzo for a cheap supper because I had a 50% off voucher. Earlier in the year son and I had also been to Prezzo, he had pasta and I had salad. Both meals were frankly disgusting. We decided it was our choices. So this time son went for a pizza and I went for fish with Gnocchi. Our friend also went with Pizza. The food was so disgusting we left most of it.

We used to go to Prezzo all the time when son was younger, somewhere cheap we could go for Sunday lunch to get us out of house. Back in the days when he needed constant entertaining. We rarely go now because son is more than capable of entertaining himself (and doesn't want us near him). The standard of food has literally dropped through the floor. I think that with all the 50% off vouchers etc. they have obviously dropped the food quality and are really just trying to get the money from the drinks.

We'll not go back.

On Sunday I got up early and delivered half of my batch of son's magazines. I came home and felt shattered. I lay down for 30 minutes and before you know it I'd been asleep for 2 hours!!!!! This gave me just enough time to finish off my deliveries before it was time to prepare supper. So all I essentially did for the whole day was deliver leaflets and sleep!!!!! Maybe not the best Sunday I've ever had.
