A year ago... really!!!

It's February half term and so time for my annual trip to the dog racing with son. I can't believe our last trip was a year ago.

We have been doing it since he was about 8. We are not big betters. We do about 8 races and each have a pound to put on a dog for each. Every year I don't have a single winner and every year my son cleans up.

In fact he didn't do so well this time. He only won 2 races, but they were the ones with the biggest wins. So he was pleased.

My strategy of picking dogs with names that make me laugh doesn't seem to work.

I know people think it's bad I take him to the dogs, but it doesn't come without a stern lecture and some disaster stories about people losing everything. Also they are very clear there that no kids should bet so he knows its foe adults only.

Really it's about us spending time together. We chat and play cards and it's just nice to be out of the house in our own bubble.

I took 3 days off. The first was for the dogs, the second was so we could binge watch series 2 of Australian Traitors. His coping mechanism for low end telly is lower than mine. He only managed 6 episodes so there is more to go.

Today is day 3 and it's been busy. I made katsu curry and spotted dick this morning and then this afternoon I am having my hair cut.

This has given son time to get back to his revision. Year 11 with GCSEs is a rubbish year. I don't envy him one bit.

Unusually I am writing this early. Keep your fingers crossed that our wall gets finished tomorrow. Watch this space.

Just a quick update to finish the week off. Son did have his haircut, much trauma afterwards because he hated it. Unfortunately the only barber near us is a bit hit and miss. Actually I thought the haircut was fine, but as his hair had really grown quite long it was a startling change. Above all he's terrified of going into school because he knows all his friends are going to wind him up.

The final evening before school he admitted he was getting used to the cut. I thought it only fair to point out that regardless of what it looked like his friends would wind him up. I remember those days. Most significantly I remember during the age of the perm. When somebody would come back from half term or holidays with a perm. I honestly don't think I ever saw a good perm.

I'm not sure if people still have perms - if they do the world has got a lot better at them because they are not so obvious.

Saturday night husband went out with friends to go to a Joy Division cover band. Son and I stayed in and finished of Australian Traitors Series 2 (no really - watch it - one of the contestants is such a nightmare it makes it an amazing watch).

On Sunday Mum and Dad came over for a Katsu curry. Lovely to see them and they both seemed on good form.

And that's it. Just had a discussion with husband about whether I could give up work and be a lady of leisure. He said very firmly that it's fine as long as he could give up work too. Whilst it's absolutely fair enough - somehow the maths just doesn't work out..... hey ho.
