Mothers Day

It's Monday and I'm glad to report that the plumbing that was causing the ceiling above the shower to fall apart has now been sorted. It will be interesting to report what else has happened by the end of the week. Still the ceiling to repair and the electrics in the dining room to be sorted.

Looks like it's going to be a fun filled week of drivel. Tuesday night was not my finest. I fell asleep on the sofa in the evening and woke up at 02:00 absolutely freezing. As soon as I woke up the dog wanted to go out for a wee. So I let dog outside and went out with it because she's not keen to be alone at night (know the feeling). Suddenly I heard the oddest noise in the darkness. I think it was the wheels of a bicycle going around - as it's so quiet at night in the area I live in (for now - the football pitches are still looming) the sound really travels.

Even though I thought it might be a bicycle it still really freaked me out. So I headed rapidly back indoors. Dog has a habit of hanging back at the door, refusing to come in unless she is given a treat. As it was the middle of the night and I was frowsy I locked the door and went back to the sofa to continue sleeping (not wanting to wake up husband - I actually spend lots of time asleep on the sofa - it's more comfortable than my bed).

About an hour later I was woken by my slumber by the strangest noise, it sounded like something was scratching on the window. It totally freaked me out. I got up again and double checked I had properly locked the door. It was locked. I headed back to the sofa and it suddenly dawned on me - I'd had the whole sofa to myself - no dog had ruined my sleep by lying on my legs. The strange scratching noise on the window had been the dog!!!!!

I opened the door and the dog tore in. Beside itself because it had been so freaked out being locked outside at night. She was running around in circles. Needless to say I was awake for the next hour calming her down and giving her lots of love to say sorry.

Looking forward to an early night tonight!!!

Next day the builder turned up to sort out the ceiling in shower room, post plumbing. Only problem is that plumber had used joinery that was too large, he did explain he'd used plastic because he couldn't solder due to plastic above the pipework. I was ok with this because I didn't realise it impacted the roofing. Now looking back the plumber knew what he'd done but he just wanted me to confirm it was ok in my ignorance. So now we have a huge hole in the bathroom ceiling and we are back to needing a plumber to resolve it.

I'm getting quite f*cked off with all of this. You wouldn't get this with tradespeople from other countries.

Well what was written above was earlier in the week and suddenly a whole week has gone by and I haven't posted.

Weekend was something of a whirlwind. We had another unplanned 'romantic' dinner party with no lights on Saturday and on Sunday it was Mothers Day.

Every year son gives me a bundle of sticks tied with string. I'll admit I wasn't terribly appreciative of this when it happened for the first time aged 5 and also not appreciative that as far as husband was concerned this was good enough (this is why he now gets a stone for Fathers Day).

I've started a new bit of crafting where I decorate glass and it occurred to me that this could be quite a nice thing to receive. So I purchased him a floating photo frame, handed him my glass paint and said off you go. I thought that this would be easy to do and would be something I could keep forever.

I didn't anticipate the huge drama this caused. I can usually think up a quote, saying, poem etc. in approximately 10 seconds and assumed it was the same for the rest of the world. Son literally poured over the internet for hours and hours... and hours. In the end I sent him to chat gpt and then it still took another few hours before he got something done. By which time he was exhausted and he ended up cobbling together the actual drawing at the last minute on the night before.

As a result..... can you spot the deliberate mistake.

It's still way better than a bundle of sticks!!!!!!

Then at 12:30 Mum and Dad turned up and I leapt in their car to help them find parking. The road down to the seafront was absolutely gridlocked. It was Mothers Day and the sun was out. However, we found a lucky parking place and walked down to Elate where we were having lunch (there was no way I was cooking). A short while later brother, husband and son turned up and we had a lovely lunch.

Well, when I say lovely lunch - the company was lovely - I think they may have changed the chef at Elate the food was quite frankly average. Though I still prefer it to the other coffee shops in the village so I'll let them off, but may not be quite so keen to eat there in the future.

Anyway - sorry this is so late this week, it's been insanely busy - in next week's post I'll pick up from here - because the long week started right after mothers day lunch.
