An unusual one this week as I'm actually going to creep over a week. The weekend had a bank holiday and as ever, whenever we actually get a break the rest of the world wants to fill the time. As a result I continue to never be allowed to have any time to just sit down. As I'm somebody that doesn't feel the need to fill every second of every day - I can't pretend this doesn't irritate me.
The week at work was extremely busy. As mentioned in last week's post I was out of the office at a conference for most of the week so the first part of the week was catching up from when I was at the conference and the second half was getting the decks clear so I could have a week off.
I don't know why, but every time I have a week off there is some sort of mega disaster that happens that needs to be sorted. I didn't quite sort it, but I refuse to think about it. I need a break. So there. It'll still be there waiting for me when I get back.
Son continues to work his way through his GCSE's. He's doing really well and I'm proud of him. My only nerves so far are around his first computing exam. Which he said he found so easy he finished 45 minutes early. I have a horrible feeling that two pages were stuck together or something. We'll just have to wait for the results.
Husband and I have been sharing picking him up if he only has an exam in the morning. Or dropping him off if it's only in the afternoon. The rest of the trips are via the minibus. Obviously this requires a whole load of new organisation. What time to pickup/drop off etc. and also to make sure the minibus knows when he is or isn't needing a lift. They come to your house and so it's not like he's waiting at a bus stop (or not). So I've been emailing the itinerary on a Friday and then texting the driver each evening to let them know. So far so good. No mad rushes across the Downs to school yet and no desperate pleas from a forgotten child expecting to be picked up. Though to be fair, he's far from defenceless and could probably get the bus.
Picking him up on Friday he was in a great mood. He was over the hump of the exams, less to come than had been taken and because he has half term the following week he could actually have quite a chilled weekend without revising. As he's just done one set of exams after the other since September that's quite a break.
On Sunday we went to my parents house. They normally come to ours. I didn't realise how long it was since I'd visited them, but as I drove the familiar roads loads of new houses had popped up. They don't pop up overnight. We had a lovely lunch with my favourite meal from my youth. The meal I always requested for my birthday. Chicken and Peach bake. It's a 70's classic with layers of chicken, runner beans, peaches and ready salted crisps with a chicken soup sauce and topped with grated cheese. Yup you heard right. Don't knock it til you've tried it it's absolutely yummy. Though you couldn't have it too often because it's hardly a light meal!
Bank Holiday Monday saw us at my brother in law's house to celebrate his birthday. As ever our dog behaved terribly. The weather had changed and it was cold and grey, but I ended up sitting outside with the dog on a short lead so it couldn't bully the other dogs or bark at the small children. We're definitely going to have to get a trainer for her. I'll look into that. It's going to have to be somebody that comes to our house rather than a group setting because she's good at coming when called and sitting and all that basic stuff. It's the barking and the nervousness of people that makes her seem aggressive when she isn't being. A total nightmare.
I've actually got the whole week off too. So today was my opportunity to do very little. I took the dog for a walk, put last week's washing away and put a new wash on. Then all I did was sit down and watch a whole run of chick flicks, mainly starring Sandra Bullock. I tend to like her films. I don't get much of a chance to watch chick flicks because it's something of a testosterone fuelled house.
So that's really it for now, I'll post again next week with the rest of the week. Hopefully there will be some nice stuff. In fact I know there will be, but you'll just have to wait to find out what.
Until then.
