Not my thing!

When I was younger and oh so innocent, I used to think that you built up your jewellery over time because the person you fell in love with gave it to you as presents.

I think I was in my mid 40's when I realised that this wasn't going to happen. Don't get me wrong, husband is fabulous but he doesn't have a romantic bone in his body. He's also oblivious if you drop heavy hints. I would like to mention here (should he ever read this) that he has now purchased me 2 pairs of diamond earrings. Oh and he also bought me a necklace and earrings for my 50th.

Ok - so I'm grasping.

Basically I love jewellery, I think I got this from my mother. There's nothing nicer than looking at a jewellery box full of 'pretty things' to decide what your mood is for the day.

UNFORTUNATELY, there's always something to spend money on that's not a pretty thing. School fees, walls falling down, new bathrooms because the old one is leaking etc. etc. So I spend quite a bit of time watching TJC on telly, just looking at pretty things.

The other reason I watch is there is inevitably something that makes me laugh - and on occasion I do see something on there I like and I may even purchase, but largely it's background noise, looking at pretty things and chuckling at things that tickle my funny bone. Nobody else in my house understands why I enjoy watching it so much.

This Friday morning, I sat with my early morning cup of coffee and suddenly on screen came something that made me howl with laughter for about 10 minutes. I took the photo with this post and shared it with husband - he didn't find it nearly as funny as me.

It was one of  my favourite days - everything under £20. On these days you get some poor presenter trying to sell you a dodgy necklace, followed by some knee pads for when you are gardening. I recall recently one of the presenters who fancies himself as a silver fox had to sell a necklace, followed by knee pads, whilst sitting on a disgusting inflatable chair. After about 15 minutes of no sales he honestly looked as if he just wanted to be taken away - in fact they looked so deflated somebody else on the channel came into shot to help him out and bring him back from the brink.

Aaaanyway, back to Friday. There on screen was a necklace that Princess Diana would have been proud to wear, with the description '2 Piece Set - White Shell Pearl, Simulated Diamond & Simulated Blue Topaz Necklace cum Broach.

Well, thought I - I don't think that's quite my thing!!!!! (in case your brain realigned the spelling - focus on the last bit of the description).

Apart from that moment of great excitement it was a quiet week last week. It's absolutely freezing and typically for June quite wet. I'm not sure what's going on in my garden. Loads of things are dying at the moment, some of them have been established for years. I think I'll cut them back and see if they resprout next year. I'm wondering if it's to do with the dust when the wall was built.

On the subject of the wall, the new fence is being built. It's half way finished. I do worry about it a bit it seems extremely hefty. As it's attached to the new wall I worry that we're actually going to lose the new wall as well. This is the problem I got a neighbour to build it. They do like to go for chunky. We also have a communication issue.

I think they have ADHD and with me being on the spectrum when he speaks to me he fires loads of information at me in quick succession, none of it makes any sense. To protect me my brain shuts down and doesn't absorb the information.

You see how we might have issues. So because they have ADHD they are listening to me because their brain is whirring with a million different things. I'm not listening to them because of information overload.

It really is a recipe for disaster. Lovely man though!

Work was super busy after my week off. I had desk stress because I simply couldn't get to my to do list. From 09:00 on Monday morning until 12:30 on Wednesday I was literally in back to back meetings with my list of work getting longer and longer, but with no time to actually get anything done. I did manage to grab a few hours by the end of the week to get a few bits done.

Son is STILL doing his GCSE's. I really can't believe how long they go on for. He's got another week and 1 day. Husband and I are sharing the pickups. On Friday I ended up waiting for him for an hour. The issue was 'progress'. Son is allowed to do exams on a school laptop as are a number of other kids. At the end of the exam they have to take their laptop one by one to the desk, where a teacher prints off what they have done. On Friday it was English, so the whole year were doing the exam. As a result it took son 40 minutes to get to the front of the queue to get his paper printed. I was proud of myself though, I didn't want to add to his stress so I remained calm. Even though it meant I had to do an hour of overtime at work on a Friday night to make up the time!

On Saturday friends came over for sups, was nice to catch up with them and it's definitely better now it's just once a month. Though I do still hate cooking.
