I'll go to a bit more effort after last week's appalling post.
Car is now back in the garage. I have been carless now for 4 days. It means that dog walks have been less varied, but with a nature reserve on the corner of the road things are not exactly drastically bad. The only reason I don't use it for every walk is that I'm bored rigid of it! Plus to get up to the main bit of the nature reserve is the steepest path ever.
Actually getting up it isn't easy, but isn't impossible, it's the coming down bit that I find tough. However, running along the bottom is a wood and this takes you to the local recreation ground. So this is my preferred route. I wouldn't go up the top at the moment anyway, because it's riddled with grass seed which will just lock itself into dog's coat.
On the subject of dog. We got her a vet appointment on Tuesday afternoon, It turns out that she'd somehow ripped out a claw and this had got infected. The vet gave us some pills and almost immediately she got a lot better. I took her back on Saturday morning for a check-up. The vet had a good look at her paw and said it was doing well, but the claw may not grow back. Given that dog has a habit of running her claws down the leg of people wearing shorts I think there may be a lot of people very happy about her having one less claw to damage them. Basically it's like having razors run down your leg.
After dealing with the paw the vet then cleared out her scent glands. Then after washing her hands she tried to give the dog a treat. The dog backed away from her. The vet looked sad and said 'oh she doesn't trust me'. I pointed out that as far as dog was concerned she'd just poked at her sore foot and then stuck a finger up her bum. I'm not sure I'd have trusted the vet much either!
Anyway, I took dog out this morning and she managed really well and chased the ball quite happily. So she'll be right as rain very soon.
As I left for the walk this morning you could see the difference in the light (see photo). It's not quite as dramatic as I thought it was because with the lights on in the house it looked a lot darker, but things are definitely getting ready for winter..... making the nights longer for Santa to help him get it all done in time!
As well as the dog being in the wars so was I. I fell asleep on the sofa on Monday whilst watching telly and woke up with the worst burst blood vessel in my eye I've ever had. In fact this has only happened once before when dog scratched my eyeball. It was really horrific and very ugly. I kept forgetting about it and catching myself in a mirror and nearly throwing up.
What was worse about it was that when it dissipated it dissipated to the front of the eye not the back. Here we are a week later and it's still not fully healed, but nearly there. I now no longer want to throw up when I look at myself. It's also better enough for me to put eye makeup on. I really did look a wreck last week with a bloody eye and no makeup.
I'm not sure what it was, the only thing I can think of was that I looked into some really bright light by mistake (my red light therapy cap). I wonder if this was too much for my eye and made something go pop. Other than that I have no idea.
Back to this morning's walk. I didn't make myself too popular with husband. I was so busy taking a photo for this blog that I forgot to take my front door key. I realised as I turned back to come home. I knew I'd be in disgrace, I got home a good 30 minutes before husband's alarm. Though he was surprisingly nice about it - yay him.
It wasn't 100% my fault. I mentioned I've been without a car for a while and my front door key is attached to my car keys. So I've separated the key, but because it's on it's own it's not as noticeable and always seems to be either in a pocket or a handbag. Well that's my excuse anyway.
I hope to get my car back soon. It's not ideal. Basically it needs to go to scrap, but if I buy myself a new car (which I currently can't afford) it does mean that I'll not be happy about son going in it. So I've actually bitten the bullet and I'm spending £700 on it. A new clutch and a service. That's more than the car is worth.
I've been looking at new cars (well new to me anyway), the price of second hand cars has shot through the roof. I may have to go for something that isn't a mini - which makes me very sad. But it just seems mad to go for a massively expensive car when I only drive about 3,000 miles a year. I'm going to have to wrestle with this one.
Time will decide what I end up with. Watch this space.
The only other thing was that on Sunday we went over to my husband's brothers because they were celebrating their wedding anniversary. It was their 40th, so a big one, but I do find it very strange when people celebrate wedding anniversaries with other people. To me it feels a private thing.
However, it was nice to catch up with the family and to see how the next generation are doing. One is about to turn 1 year's old, one is about to turn 4 and one is about to turn 3. It does make me feel quite wistful, but then you see how hard the parents are working constantly and it reminds you that there's literally no break!!!!
On which subject, son goes back to school this week. Because he finished early after his GCSE's I'd almost forgotten he went to school. It will be strange not to have him around the house.
