I'm sure other stuff happened last week, but I'm somewhat obsessed with one thing.
I suffer from very waxy ears (TMI I know). These are usually managed with Otex and washing out. I've had a particularly stubborn ear and so I broke my unwritten rule and used a cotton bud. On Thursday night it almost felt ok and so I gave it a really good clear out.
Suddenly I was in utter agony - I mean take your breath away pain. It lasted for about 30 minutes. I went upstairs and ran a bath and whilst waiting cleaned my ear. Wax came out, and what looked like a thin sliver of skin came out. Have I wiped out my eardrum - I don't know.
Next morning my ear still felt clogged up, but the pain had gone and I felt relief. Then in the afternoon I felt something wet in my ear and felt it and it was blood. Not huge amounts, but some. I was thrown by this.
Waking up Saturday morning my ear was wet again and once again there was blood, same on Sunday and today is Monday and it's the same. The thing is this morning (Monday) it's also hurting again. Not like Thursday night, but I've had to have neurofen to manage it.
It's hard to tell how bad it was over the weekend because I've been really ill. So I've been chaining neurofen. I don't think it's related I honestly think a coincidence, on Sunday I felt better than on Saturday and today I don't actually feel ill with the exception of my ear.
Anyway, this morning I'm going to make my first ever emergency doctors appointment - not sure what that means as normally an appointment is within the next fortnight. But I need to get this looked at in case it's an infection and if not I need to know what I can do to try to sort things out. At the moment I'm too afraid to do anything to it at all.
So not the most cheerful of updates, but I did warn you about the Ick. Watch this space.
Update. Got emergency GP appointment. It's ugly in there. Puss, blood and swelling. He referred me to emergency ENT. 28 hours later had heard nothing. Then heard I had been referred back to GP who is not in today. They hadn't even seen me.
I am now in A&E. Tuesday lunchtime seems a good slot. Wait hasn't been too long. I have an appointment to see somebody in 1.5 hours and am killing time.
