Even though Claudia couldn't spoil our fun - I have a hunch that her New Year was more exciting.
I went back to work during Twixtmas, can't remember if I mentioned that.
Then on New Years Eve, as soon as I finished work I went down to the kitchen and started to prepare our New Year's eve party food. Christmas and New Year literally is a never ending chain of catering isn't it!!!!
I had planned to keep it simple and just buy all the party food, but it seems that as far as online purchasing was concerned nothing was available this year. I'm not sure what had happened to the supply chains. The only thing that was available were ghastly things made out of reconstituted chicken and you have to draw a line somewhere!
So in the end I had to make most of the party food myself, so it was a bit of a mad rush. Then at 18:00 our friends that had moved to Ireland came by. It was lovely to see them, there was a lot to catch up on to hear about their new life. Fortunately, for once they seemed to like their Christmas presents - normally I can tell from their reactions that they hate them - or maybe because they now don't see me weekly they felt more inclined to hide their disappointment. I don't feel guilty when they don't like their presents. A lot of thought goes into them, but the presents I get in return require absolutely zero thought and I've never liked or wanted a single one of them in 10 years! But it's the thought that counts (I'm told - LOL).
They stayed with us until 09:00 and then they left - then as a family we sat down and had a game of trivial pursuit. I can't remember who won, it may even have been me for once!!!!!
We played that until just before midnight and then turned on the television to watch the change of the year on telly. Then son went to bed and husband and I stayed up for about an hour.
So not the most exciting New Year's eve celebration, but a perfectly nice one as far as I was concerned.
I refuse to make comments about hopefully 2026 being a better year, because I did that in 2019 and every single year since then has steadily got worse and worse. I'm not tempting fate any more than I can.
My ear is still feeling 'not quite right', but it's not painful. They did say it might take a while to repair so I'll wait out this week and maybe next and then see what the state of play is. The important thing is that there's no pain.
HOWEVER, yesterday I woke up and in my sleep I'd somehow managed to sprain my ankle. Can anybody explain that one to me!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise I was sober, I've literally no idea what happened.
On the subject of sober, I'm just about to polish off half a bottle of bubbly left over from New Year and then I'm going to attempt to have a dry January. I don't hold out much hope.
They are promising snow this week. I have my fingers and toes crossed. Hopefully there will not be a repeat of last year's hike up a hill to save my son. I've given him firm instructions to go into college wearing a winter coat with hat and gloves!!!!! He's old enough to walk back on his own if necessary (though doubtless I'd meet him half way).
Oh and in other news - we had the startling news that son's Driving Instructor had failed his Driving Instructor test and so can only teach him until March. How does one even fail that and how embarrassing for the poor man to have to tell his students. What's strange is that according to son he's a brilliant instructor - so I'm guessing it's some sort of buttock clenching red tape. I hope they can sort it out soon because obviously it's their job so it's genuinely not a laughing matter.
Fortunately for us son's test is in April so our only concern is what car he'd take the test in. So son is going to see if he can get an earlier test. I appreciate that's a terrible example of 'we'll be ok Jack'. Hopefully the instructor can get sorted and put it behind him quickly.
Next week's going to be my first 5 day working week for 5 weeks. Let's see if I make it through without booking Friday off. Husband has been off for 2 weeks and 1 day - so it's going to be a much bigger struggle for him than me, though he gets moody if I laugh so I'll try not to.
