Dead Fish

Dog had a disgusting week. She's been on heat for the past few week's this was her first week fully off the lead and allowed to run free. Oh my goodness she took full advantage.

Wednesday she enjoyed a buffet of poo - first eating fox poo, then dog poo, then finishing off with rabbit poo for desert. There's not too much you can do about that except steer well clear of the mouth! Friday when walking through the wood she disappeared, which is unusual for her as she's usually my shadow and I nearly trip over her. I called her, I blew the dog whistle (which always works), still nothing. I retraced my steps and found her having the roll of her life because there were 2 fox poo's next to each other.

Why is the smell of fox poo so unholy! It was all over her back neck and collar. In a foul mood I dragged her back home and put her in the bath to wash it all off. Unfortunately after the first water rinse she did the mother of all dog shakes, literally covering every inch of the bathroom in diluted fox poo. Once she was clean I then had to clean the bathroom, disinfecting as I went.

On Saturday the sun was out (ish), it was one of those days when the tides were friendly at dog walking time so we went down to the beach so she could paddle in the rock pools. Once again I discovered she wasn't with me - I saw her in the distance playing with another dog - lovely. Then suddenly the other dog started chowing down on something and my dog started to have another roll.

I sprinted across the beach (well as fast as you can on pebble) and when I got to her she was rolling in the guts of a dead fish. I should count myself lucky - the other dog had a putrid fish head in its mouth and was happily nomming away. This week's photo is her doggy look of shame (don't believe a moment of it) when I told her off for rolling.

Needless to say the stench on my dog was quite horrific. When we got to the rock pools I made sure the pebbles I was throwing for her went as deep as possible. I should explain these are not Enid Blyton rock pools, these are basically pools of water left when the tide goes out - kinda the size of a small swimming pool. Dog is afraid of the waves, but loves a paddle, so they are perfect and at their deepest her head and back are still out of the water.

On the subject of Enid Blyton (an author, for those of you who are Gen Z and have never read a book), the Magic Faraway Tree is currently in the cinema. Now when I was young the Faraway Tree books were my favourite and even as I grew up I'd occassionally take them off the shelf and read them again. Then when son was young I got all the books for him and we'd read them together (well I'd read them to him, he's Gen Z - doesn't read books). They were his favourite books too.

I was quite surprised when son agreed to come to the cinema with me to watch it, but very pleased. It took a bit of planning because of the issues he's got with over heating right now. We had to leave in plenty of time so we could stroll to the cinema with a reduced risk of his temperature even shifting by a degree. I also agreed with him that if it got hot in the cinema we could just leave at any time.

Needless to say we watched the film and son didn't get too hot.

You know how when you go and see a film of a book you love and it's amazing and brings the images in your brain to life................ well - this wasn't one of those films!!!!! I mean it was ok, some of it was magical - but I wonder if the person that wrote the screenplay and the person that directed the film had ever actually read the books.

Still there's so much of Enid Blyton that's now considered racist, sexist etc. it probably means that by the time they'd ripped all the bits out that were the wrong side of history there was not much left to keep in. Look at me being kind and making excuses for them. I shall stop myself - The film wasn't great!

On Sunday my parents came over for Easter lunch. I'd got a great pork joint from the butcher. Want to know how much it cost.......................... £65!!! I nearly fainted. That said it was great quality and there's enough left over for a couple of other meals. So maybe not too bad (I keep telling myself). The cost of everything is just going sky high at the moment. I know that traditionally it should be lamb at Easter (for those of us ghastly people that still eat meat), but we haven't had a roast for ages and so we had to have crackling!

It was great to see them. Obviously after they left I discovered that half of what I'd intended to put on the table was still in the oven, but this is somewhat traditional for me. Still it means that I don't need to cook again until about Thursday.

And that's pretty much it for this week. I'll take that - I'm kinda pleased to have had a calmer week. Right now it's Bank Holiday Monday. I shall try to keep it quiet today because guess what...... tomorrow I'm travelling for work again!!!! I couldn't get a hire car because the hire people are shut today and because I don't want to travel on some rare (and very much needed) days off I'm going to have to do the trip there and back in a day and in my somewhat dodgy Mini.

Oooooohhh very quickly, that's not all - you're never going to guess what - my Mini made it through the MOT with literally not a single problem. It's completely inexplicable!!!!! So at least I can start saving because I really want a Jeep next..................... bet I end up with a 20 year old Smart Car. Let's wait and see....
