As a result every morning I've been taking the dog down to the beach for a swim. At the weekend the tide was out, but the rockpools were in good shape, so we did the rockpools together. But as the week went on it was high tide before work. So when that happens I take her to a different beach and she has a swim.
Dog is quite nervous to start with but grows in confidence after about 5 minutes. So after a week of being in the 'big' sea this morning she showed some real bravery. It wasn't just that she was swimming out further, but what she was actually doing was hanging off shore waiting for a big wave to surf her back to the beach.
Before you get visions in your head that are not quite accurate. When I say 'big' wave, to you and me it would be a wave that gently lapped our knee!!! But for her it's big enough for her to lift her feet and be swept inland.
What was quite funny was that as we arrived at the swimming beach there was a couple that had clearly spent the night together. Sitting there lovingly looking into each others eyes with a cup of coffee.
I genuinely apologised to them for what was to come. As soon as I started throwing stones into the sea dog started barking and that barking didn't stop until we left 20 minutes later. I can only imagine the conversation they had with each other as we walked off. However, there are limited beaches you can take dogs on in the summer so it was their own fault for chosing one of the few dog beaches around.
As we walked back I saw about 20 other dogs heading for the beach so we were just the first of many to spoil the romantic solitude.
Work from a personal perspective has been a lot better this week. Back to business as usual. Which is a huge relief. I chose the word personal there very carefully. Because work from a business perspective this week has been quite fraught. With questions in parliament and we're all over the news.
I hasten to add that this is not my business it's a business I work for. Fortunately for me I was not directly involved in any of the 'stuff' that's been going on. There has been a lot of background activity going on by others after the questions in parliament and the information in the newspapers, so I've been keeping my head well and truly down - happy not to get involved.
I feel like I've given away most of my salary this month. It's my nephew's birthday, son's godmother's birthday and one of our friends birthdays. Plus later this month it's my parents 60th wedding anniversary.
So that's 5 cards (2 for godmother) each at £3.99 - when did cards get so expensive. Plus the presents. For newphew I sent him a groovy bottle of vodka, for godmother a bottle of Georgio Armanie perfume - you know the 80s one Georgio Beverley Hills - she'll never wear it, but the yellow and white stripes are something of an 'in' joke. Plus we got her some sparkly purple pens with matching notebook - trust me she'll like them. For friend I bought some stuff he can take when he goes on his hikes, pocket blankets, compass and a sit mat (who knew a sit mat existed).
Then we get to the 60th wedding anniversary. This is getting very expensive. Brother and I clubbed together and we bought them a tour of a local vinyard with wine tasting. Later this month we're off to the Ivy in Guildford (which is near where they live). So that's not going to be cheap. Plus I'm going to get them a taxi so they can both enjoy some bubbly.
It feels a bit like Christmas - just open the window and throw the money out. Plus on top of the presents just posting the present for friend and son's godmother came to £10.00.
Oh and I just remembered also sent flowers to sister-in-law to say thank you for hosting Dad's 90th birthday party. That included some chaos as got photo from Evri to show me the safe space they'd left them in. Basically in a hot shed in full sun. I then spent the next 30 mins desperately trying to get hold of people so that they were rescued before they all died - sigh.
This week's photo is of my dog walking harness - it tells a true story of my walking life. The blue bag is stuffed full of poo bags, plus an emergency lead in case dog does a runner and refuses to come back. The pastel revolting looking rings are some very ugly sweat bands I have that I put around my bracelets when I'm throwing stones and balls for the dog on walks. To hopefully not have a repeat of my bracelets falling off and getting lost. That's the plan anyway.
Then tied around the neck strap of the bag is a small dog towel I carry everywhere for when dog has been in the sea. Finally the rather odd green thing attached to the bag is a very handy poo bag holder - for when the bag is full. Husband refuses to use them because he feels it's wearing a poo necklace. I'm very happy to wear a poo necklace if it saves me having to carry the bag. Oh and finally - my purse, because if I ever go out without my purse I need it for some reason. Sometimes the phone is stuffed in that pocket too, but often not - why on earth do people want to be in contact with the world 24x7.
Anyway, that's it really, a lot of typing about very little. I'm actually surprised I managed to write so much because essentially bugger all happened this week!
