2020 is definitely a year we'll all remember. Just as I think things can't get any worse they do.
I don't need to explain all the COVID-19 stuff with you - you're living through it too and it's threaded through the blog for obvious reasons.
Needless to say I'm still on furlough. I work in the travel industry one of the industries hardest hit. It's a great place to work and I hope to go back. However, just as things get better they get worse again. Having re-opened flights to Spain last night they suddenly said 14 days quarantine again - so the company I work for has had to cancel all flights/holidays to Spain until the quarantine is lifted.
So back in a spin of uncertainty again. I still don't know if I'll have a job once furlough is over, if I'm redundant the terms of redundancy will define my next steps. So I'm in limbo at the moment and it's really attacking my brain, I'm not embarrassed to say. As I mentioned previously I spent months doing loads of different things in the hopes of being ready for anything - but that left me feeling exhausted and as if I had a to do list that was endless. So I'm pausing a bit on that until I have clarity. Besides so many things require money - which I don't currently have as furlough is 80% of a salary I had ages ago and my bills remain the same.
On top of this my mother (in her 70's) had a knee operation 2 weeks ago, she was obviously nervous about going into hospital as she and Dad have been isolating. It went well, though she's dealing with the usual extreme pain that comes with a knee op. Then suddenly on Friday I got a phone call to say that mum had had a heart attack.
If you ever wonder how amazing the NHS is, this is what happened. Mum couldn't breath and had pains in her arms. They rang the COVID hotline - had a tense few minutes getting through the automated call menu. Once through to somebody they described symptoms - person on line said 'that's your heart' - I'll get somebody with you urgently. Within 10 minutes there was an ambulance outside their house with a Cardio Unit. They kept mum going and in 20 minutes she was at the hospital, where there was a surgical unit waiting at the door. They took her straight into surgery and put a stent in (I'm not an expert so please excuse any inaccuracy), then an hour and a half later I got a phone call from my mother. All tucked up in bed feeling shaky, but ok.
Loving you NHS. THANK YOU. I mean, I defy anybody to say something bad about an organisation that can do that.
However, it just seems that the turds keep flying at the moment and it would be nice if it could all be over - if you could just organise that please!!!!!!!
Also fuming with some idiot on an App I use so you can communicate locally. Government put in requirement to wear face masks in shops on Friday. They put up a post calling face masks 'face nappies' saying that people were just virtue signalling by wearing them. I mean - I'm not an expert, but really how hard is it to give it a go - see if it makes a difference. If you look across the world where masks have been worn there appears to be a compelling case. Surely you'd rather wear a mask for a few months when in shops etc. and then find out it was for nothing - rather than NOT wear a mask and things get worse and find out you should have worn one.
I'm desperate for at least some level of normal to be back and need to get back to work. I can only assume that those people who are refusing to be flexible have seen little change in their lives.
