Well that's my first week in my new job finished. It's the first time I've ever started a job without actually physically meeting anybody - all rather strange. I've got so much to learn as they speak a completely different language. I already have 4 A4 pages of acronmys that they use. They even have a TLA for 3 letter words.
The colleagues I've met virtually are all amazing. I'm pleased to say that I took the job for a specific reason and so far that reason seems to have been correct. What's tough is being the new girl and being remote. I'm working my socks off, but some of the objectives I've been given are things I'd have found easier if I'd been in the business longer. So they are taking me longer than I'd like. If I was sitting in a room with people they'd be able to see how hard I was working. Fingers crossed they are getting from me what they want.
I am completely frazzled by about 3.00 in the afternoon. Husband has been really sick this week. Not COVID, but not well at all. Son is home schooling. So on top of starting a new job this week I've also been on a constant round of chores before work, at lunchtime and after work.
Basically I'm a shell of my former self.
I'm sitting here now having walked down to the butchers (more later) and then sorted out 4 loads of washing. When I've finished this I need to do some work on the company I set up. There's not a lot more to give right now. So please excuse me if I don't blog so much for a couple of weeks. In late February I have quite a big webinar that I'm giving and I need to work towards that. Whilst I'm spreading myself thinly the jam really needs to go to the new fulltime job.
So I've barely been out this week - it hasn't stopped raining. Still no snow (boo), but really wet and miserable. I went out twice - once to walk around the block because I hadn't been out for 4 days and once to post a letter. Good times huh! I was absolutely determined I'd walk to butchers today rather than take car (about a 20 minute walk).
So naturally when I woke up this morning it was raining really hard. I had a cup of coffee and then got into all my waterproof gear. I have to say one of the good things about getting older is you cease to care what you look like. Let's face it - you only see really young people (under 10) and really old people (over ???) in great wet weather gear. Well unless they are a fisherman or similar anyway.
I've got this amazing full length coat - it covers me completely except for about 3 inches of ankle. Once I have my attractive brown walking boots on (purchased after my rabbit hole incidents last year) that's actually reduced to 2 inches. It's got a great hood with a peaked cap that keeps the rain off your face and you can pull toggles so that only about 2 inches of your face is showing.
So just take a moment to picture this image............ yup I dare say your imagination has the correct picture. I'm not going to get stopped with an invitation to be on the cover of vogue... again (no actually that never did happen). It did, however, happen to the mothers of one of my friends at school - when she was sunbathing on the beach in a bikini. I was always impressed about that as a kid - to be fair I'm impressed as an adult. I mean how amazing would you need to look in a bikini for that to happen - there have to be only about 10 people in the world ever that that could happen to. I never did actually see her mum so I don't know what she looked like - but must have been quite stunning.
So I did my journey to butchers in the rain, walked home in even heavier rain. Took off my now saturated outer wear (completely dry underneath - hooray for waterproofs). Well I say completely dry - completely dry except for 2 inches of saturated leg between coat and walking boots. I made myself a cup of coffee to warm up and guess what - by the time I finished my coffee it had stopped raining!
Exactly the same thing happened when I posted the letter earlier in the week - by the end of the day it was blue sky and lovely. I'm beginning to think I'm a rain god!
My parents have had their COVID jabs now - the first ones anyway. There's lots of hoo ha about the EU trying to reduce the amount of jabs we get. I don't think it will come to anything but I think there will be a lot of very shouty people if our elderly don't get their second jabs. I must say I voted remain and wish we hadn't left the EU, but even I will be potentially the shoutiest of all.
I don't mind if I don't get my jab for a while - there are many that need it before me - the people that are essential workers for starters. I also think that teachers should get theirs really soon. I still check my phone every day in the hopes it's my turn.
Anyway can't prattle on much longer I need to do about an hours work on my business and then I need to practice for my webinar. Then I need to fill the freezer for lunches during the week and get supper cooked. I very much hope that before the regular Saturday teleconf we have with a friend that I can have a good old fashioned nap.
SHATTERED, FRAZZLED.
FFS - son has just asked for lunch!
