The windows are all in and looking really good actually.
As always a couple of minor irritations. You may recall that last week I painted the surround of the garage door in white. Once all the windows were in I realised it didn't work. It needed to be dark gray.
Wanting to get everything ship shape this weekend I went online and purchased some new paint. Problem is that I am rubbish at sizing with internet purchases. Sure enough on Saturday, just in time to do the painting the paint turned up. Not one ordinary sized pot of dark gray paint, but two teeny tiny pots of paint about the right size to paint a small dolls house.
Really annoying as the paint wasn't cheap either. As a result I realised I needed to go to a DIY store (doom). First thing on Saturday it was clear it was going to be a bright sunny day. This limits my options of where I can travel.
As soon as it's sunny everybody travels to where I live to spend the day. So if you leave the confines of the area you end up in an hour and a half's queue to get back home. It drives me mad. I do think they should have a separate lane of traffic for locals - a bit like a bus lane!
Anyway, I made the decision to stick to the coast road and go in the direction of Newhaven. I knew the journey there would be quick because everybody would be heading my way and I know a reasonable rat run on the way home where I can avoid the coast road.
I used to travel to Newhaven every weekend to go swimming, that then stopped because of COVID and then post COVID I got the dog - so the time I'd have spent swimming I now spend walking the dog. Newhaven gets quite a bit of bad press, it may not be the most beautiful place in the world, but I quite like it. It's much the same as any industrial port anywhere in the world, but the fact that so many people travel in and out gives it something of an international feel. Even some of the road signs are in French as well as English.
Back when the catamaran was in action husband and I used to go to Dieppe all the time. I have to say I love Dieppe and do miss it - but now it's just the Ferry it takes about 4 hours and our last Ferry trip was horrific - I don't know how the Ferry stayed afloat the weather was so bad. I was terrified and very seasick. I ended up lying in the bar area with waves of sickness flowing over me. Listening to the glasses and bottles in the bar smashing to the floor because the boat was swaying so much. All very Titanic if you ask me - as a result I haven't felt like going back again.
I mentioned that the windows had gone in without too many problems. The only issue is the fact that when the scaffolding was removed the scaffolders left a huge mess. Literally littering our patios (front and back) with filth and bits of plastic. The roof at the front is also covered in various amounts of filth. What we need is a huge storm with a good wind - that and for me to get off my backside and sweep some of it up.
The most annoying thing was that we replaced the bulb in the light at the top of the house and when they removed the scaffolding they changed the position of it - so it's now simply lighting up a bush at the bottom of the garden. I'm furious and I'm going to see if I can get them to sort it out. Why should we risk ourselves sweeping the roof and climbing up ladders because of their rubbishness. I'll keep you in the loop on that.
Anyway, I managed to get the replacement paint and husband kindly agreed to do the surround (I'd painted the garage door in the week).
Even with the rubbish that needs clearing up the house looks so much better. it's nice not to be the embarrassing house in the road any more - the one that lets the whole street down.
We're just at the start of a heatwave - not great for me as I don't like the heat, but at least means we can make the most of our new paddleboard and kayak. Husband not too happy as the sea is too calm for him to surf, but you can't have everything. Husband and son went out on paddleboard yesterday. Son was quite pleased as he's been paddleboarding with his school and he said he just goes round in circles. He was able to get our paddleboard to work a lot better.
On subject of son, as far as we were aware he's finished all his exams. Last night, seconds before lights out he suddenly said - oh no I've got my drama assessment tomorrow and I haven't learnt my lines! Honestly, I wasn't too chuffed with him at all. He then started to beg to have the day at home to avoid the exam. In this instance I felt it was a good time for him to have a painful life lesson - needless to say he's gone in to face his doom.
Only other thing that happened last week was visit to one of the offices from work. Really interesting day actually. So strange to work somewhere and not be in the office all the time. In fact it was only my 5th visit to the office and I've been working there a year and a half now. That said I get so much more done working from home. It's definitely a preference.
So that's pretty much it from me this week. Not hugely exciting or eventful, but good to get another bit of the house redone.
Oh and much excitement - if you go back to son's birthday post from last year we went to a groovy American diner in Brighton. On my walk along the high street of where I live this weekend I saw a new sign up - the diner is coming here! Absolutely perfect timing as it's somewhere son can walk with his friends and be all grown up without us having to worry about him too much. Kerching!
