Boo

Bit of a mix up this week. I booked 3 days off to be with son at half term. Problem was I booked them a week early.

On the Friday I had arranged a girls lunch with mum. I didn't want.to cancel so I shifted the 3 days a week and booked an extra day to see mum.

It was a great opportunity to have a natter. Just the two of us. Mum lives just far enough away that it's a bit of a trek. It would be a 2.5 hour round trip, which h when time is tight doesn't really work.

We met half way at a garden centre outside of Horsham. Had a spot of lunch and a lot of giggles. I really enjoyed it.

Then as it was valentines I got elbows deep in creating a posh supper for my boys. It was.also a practice run for a dinner party that's coming up. Good thing too. The cook took 3 hours and the output. Well I would say average at best. Definitely not worth the effort.

I just need to work out another menu. The difficulty being one of the guests doesn't eat spicy, another doesn't eat melted cheese and another doesn't eat fish. That's basically my entire repertoire out of the window. I will come up with something. I just don't know what yet.

Back in Christmas 2023 I gave husband a present.of a ghost tour of Brighton. Something we had meant to do for about 20 years. We continued not to get around to it. So with our next free Saturday we bit the bullet.

Son and dog joined us. After supper we headed into the town centre and waited outside the Druids Head pub. Eventually a woman in a cloak with a bell turned up. It was a small group. Just us and another  couple.

The guide proceeded to walk us around ringing a bell. Given it was Saturday night everybody was staring at us. I took the approach of walking slightly to the right of her not looking directly at her. Hoping people would just think we were walking in the same direction by chance. Husband and son hung back about 15 feet and disassociated entirely. The tour itself was interesting. They indepursed history with the stories of the ghosts and I learnt loads I didn't know about Brighton.

What I would say is that they stretched it out far too long. The whole tour was 2 hours long. Given we only walked about 5 roads they could have squeezed it into 40 minutes. Sometimes longer isn't better.

The couple with our group sloped off after 40 mins claiming they had childcare problems and had to go home. Given they had earlier said they had been together for 6 months that left me with unanswered questions!! Especially as they were in their mid 20s so it means previous relationships with kids were less likely(though not impossible). I suspect it was an excuse but as I say unanswered questions.

Every five minutes it seemed to get colder. I was mesmerised by our guide who was wearing ballet shoes with no socks, no hat and no coat. My family were all dressed for the slopes. In the end I asked her if she was freezing and she admitted her hands were hurting with cold. So I leant her my gloves and moved my arms up inside my coat.

Anyway my verdict is that it was interesting and I am glad we did it but I wouldn't do it a second time

Though it did give me an idea of something I could do if I give up my job. I may think that one through in more detail.

So that's the big excitement for this week. Other than that it.was dog walks, cooking and work. Blah blah.
