Petworth

After a reasonably quiet week at work the weekend went past in a flash.

Saturday was spent doing the last little bits of Christmas preparation. The presents were wrapped and I put up the last few lights, which are on the back patio. I couldn't find the lights I wanted and as it was horrible weather I just put up 'any old lights'. They are very unsatisfactory. Time will tell if I take everything off the little tree we have in the back and replace with the proper lights (which are now found).

Then on Sunday I was meeting up with my oldest friend and my god daughter at Petworth House. I was quite nervous as it was the first reasonably long drive since my disaster of a few weeks ago. The car has been to the garage and officially it should now be ok, but I hadn't gone on a significant enough drive to know if the work the garage had done had fixed the problem.

We arranged to meet at Petworth House at 11.00, we felt that this would mean that we missed the worst of the Christmas traffic (it being a Sunday). Petworth had a Christmas craft fair. So off I drove to Petworth......

I expect you are waiting to hear of the disasters that followed, but actually the car worked like a dream, both there and back. Sorry to disappoint.

Once I got to Petworth House I joined a lengthy queue of cars. Then when I was about 4 cars from the front suddenly the cars started turning around. The car park was full - it was only 10:34. The fair only started at 10:30!!! I'd like to be able to tell you that there was an overflow car park, but that's not the case. I turned my car around and headed off to find myself a parking space on the road somewhere.

Actually it wasn't that bad. I managed to find one about a 5 minute walk from the house. Ultimately this meant I didn't have to pay the exorbitant price that the National Trust tends to charge.

When friend and god daughter turned up we wandered around the craft fair for a bit. There wasn't really anything that appealed to me. I wonder if the people that do those fairs actually make a living from it - or if it's something that they make pocket money on. Though to have a stall at one of these fairs must cost something.

The thing is if there is something that I see and am interested in all I'm thinking is 'oh that's a good idea, I'll make one of those!. One person was even selling fabric 'reusable crackers'. A reasonable idea, but so easy to make I can't imagine they sell as single one. Another person had a 2 for 1 offer on some jars with coloured herbs in them. £20 for 2!!!!!!!

Bizarrely in amongst the craft stuff was one woman who was selling face cream that had been made out of food waste. She seemed very proud of what she was selling, but there wasn't any interest. I'm honestly not sure I want to put food waste on my face, it's enough of a mess already.

We then popped into the House itself and looked at a few rooms, I'd have loved to have gone around the whole place, but friend and god daughter were not interested. All of the coffee areas were rammed out so we headed into town and found a coffee shop. Here we sat and had lunch and a natter.

It was lovely to catch up with them both.

Once finished we wandered back to our cards and headed on our way.

I woke up this morning and the weather was horrific. Neither the dog or I wanted to go out. But we put on a brave face and headed to the park. The wind was blowing so hard that every time I used the flinger to throw the ball it landed about 7 feet from me. We both pretended we were happy to be out and then headed back for home.

I much prefer a bright winters day, cold with a blue sky. But it seems we are in for another winter of mild temperatures (most of the time), with grey skies, rain and wind. Hey ho!
