Balls - I've already written this blog once, but managed to delete it - Annoying.
Here we go again..... (there's a lot this week too).
Update on work, my boss has gone off with stress and I don't know when he's back. My peers are jockeying (spelling) for position all trying to take his place. They are welcome to it - it's a hugely stressful role.
One of the reasons I took this job is that as well as the 'desk' job my colleagues do they also do very physical roles, things that I couldn't do. So after a lifetime of jobs where the men who were not as good at the job as me got more money - and - seeing vastly incompetent men get promoted WAY above their capability I relished having a job where I knew I could never do what my colleagues do. They are amazing. So let them fight for the supremicy - if any of them get too above themselves I can always start sticking pins in dolls.
I'm not a rabid feminist by the way (or maybe I am) I'm not saying that all the men I worked with were useless or incompetent, but when you've been working as long as me even if 30% of the men you worked with were overpaid and over promoted, that's a lot of men. I can also honestly say that across my career there have only been 2 women that fitted into that category - so the numbers don't balance.
This week was husband's birthday. I'd commissioned a full sized Storm Trooper helmet to be 3D printed for him. It was made in Aberdeen and made itself to me in somebodys hand luggage. I'd have loved it if their luggage had been checked. It had been a nightmare to wrap, paper tore and no box was big enough. In the end I wrapped it up in a colourful duvet cover and stuck a bow on top. Husband seemed pleased, though he tends to be low key so I keep my fingers crossed it was a good present.
The sun ALWAYS shines on husbands birthday - and this year was no exception. For years husband has wanted to go for a walk along the river at Amberley (see photo), but every year it is too hot. Son and I both have dicky thyroids which mean that we don't regulate heat easily. So a walk in hot weather is out of the question. This year there was one difference, the sun was shining, but the air temperature was a bit chilly. So after son had gone to school husband and I headed for Amberley. It was a lovely walk, such a beautiful place.
Once we'd finished the walk we went to a riverside cafe for lunch. We were going out in the evening so only wanted something light - it's on these occassions our eating habits are useful. There was nothing small on the menu, but there was a Club Sandwich that came with chips and salad. So we shared. Husband had half the sandwich with the chips and I had half the sandwich with the salad. A perfect partnership.
We also made a discovery. If we give dog a doggy icecream it spends the entire time nomming on that. It takes full concentration for about 35 minutes for it to get the ice-cream out of the pot. So whilst dog was entertained we could have a lovely lunch with no interuption.
When son got back from school we headed into Brighton to go to Dishoom for supper. We'd been to the one in London before, but it had come to Brighton at least a year ago and we'd not been. I have to say I don't think the Brighton one was as good as the London one. I actually prefer Mowgli, but husband loved it and so that's the main thing.
On returning home we played a game of swearing snap that dog had given husband for his birthday, then watched films. A great birthday delivered.... check.
Next day was still sunny and husband and I had another day off work. I'd had some problems with my ear again so started the day with a doctors appointment. Doctor didn't seem to worried which is good news, but I've been given some medicine in case it gets any worse. Once I got home husband and walked down to the beach and threw pebbles into rock pools to entertain dog and then went to a beach cafe for another light lunch.
Once we got home I started work on my car. I've mentioned before that the paint is peeling off it and it looks like hell. It's been getting worse and worse and I've been quite embarrassed to drive it around. However, there's no chance I'm buying a new car until son finishes school so I continue to drive it. During the week a man came up and was discussing the state it was. He told me to use some T-Cut and that would sort it out. So I purchased some and put it on the car.
Now I admit I probably didn't use the T-Cut properly, but the end result was that the car looked worse than ever I mean it looked really terrible. Years ago I'd looked up what to do with a car with peeling paint and the first thing it said was to pick off the peels and sand the edges smooth. Now as far as I'm concerned sandpaper and cars - at least with me in charge - are things that should never happen.
But it had got to the point that no matter what I did it couldn't make the car look worse. So I set about it and peeled off the paint using a pen lid to pick off the edges and then sand papered it down. I put in an order so I could do the next step the next day.
Saturday dawned and it was still sunny - perfect for working on the car. But nothing had turned up, looking at the delivery information it wasn't turning up until the evening. It was going to rain on the Sunday. So I leapt in the tatty car and drove into Brighton to go to Halfords. No mean thing because it meant doing the Bear Road roundabout - a roundabout that gives me genuine anxiety as I head towards it.
Arriving back home I got working on the car. I covered the windows and the chrome work and got out the spray paint. I'm not going to bore you with the details, but 4 hours later I'd finished respraying my car. On the Sunday I put on some laquer and ...... my car looked amazing. I'm not going to pretend it looked perfect but it literally looks like a new car.
The good news is now I've taught myself to do this if it starts to peel again I can just sort it out in a jiffy. I'm genuinely not this sort of practical person and I can't believe I achieved it. As a result I'm proud as Punch.
And that's it. I don't think this version of the blog is as good as my earlier version, but this is the version you are getting - so there.
